B Six penguins were selected for the experiment. The study showed that the penguins made an average of 144 dives a day, most to depths exceeding 150 feet. During the four to eight days, three penguins stayed at sea, two dived to depths exceeding 7«0 feet. On the basis of the estimat ed amount of squid consum ed, the scientists concluded that the penguins required about 5>/i pounds of squid per day to forage and that only about 10 percent of the dives resulted in capturing food. f Old Clothes Save oid blouses and skirts for children to use as smocks when they paint or play with messy things. Yes, Mrs. M.F. will rece ive , whatever amount she wi l l be entitled to from her late husband's account. Her V.A. pension will not be affected by an SS en titlement, provided her income, including the pension from V.A., is not more than $3,570. The difference (if any) between $3,570 and her total income from all sources will be deducted from her V.A. pension check. Q. "I will be 64 soon. I plan to retire from my job at age 65. As a widow of a retired military person am I eligible for any pension » Mi**' A. Marion needs to apply to the V.A. Q. "My husband passed away in 1978. He was a veteran of World War II. I am receiving a widow's pension. I want to be married again. Will I continue to receive my widow's pens ion af ter I remarry?" - P.J.S. A. No, but if the man who will be P.J.S.'s second husband should die first, then she can refile a request for a V.A. pension based on her first husband's military service. Q. "I am 62 and have just started drawing my social Security check. I have been told by a neighbor that if my husband were retired I could have drawn on his account which would have given me more than the $1531 now draw on my own account. If my husband retires can I refile my claim to the wife's share of his ac count even if he does not put in for Social Security before he is 65?" - Ruth C. A. Yes. Q. "My husband and I are both retired, but not yet 65. Therefore, we must carry full hospital and medical insurance with a particular company at $178 a month. Until recently, before an increase in the rate, the monthly charge was $118.20, which was bad enough. We doubt that we can continue to afford the; $178 payment. "Can we change our insurance coverage for the doctors and hospitals at this date and sii!!a2*t reasonable coverage. Or is it too late? "Must we pay such exhorbitant rates? My husband's retirement check from the State of Washington Education association is half of the insurance payment. Can you send me your list of re l iable insurance companies for sup- p l e m e n t a r y i n surance?" - Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Yes, the R.J.'s can get reasonable coverage, but they will have to work hard at researching the various companies. The best thing to do is to consult with a reputable insurance broker. They can send me 25 cents and postage for the list. The answer to the question whether they must pay the insurance rate, is yes, they nnst, if they wish to remain under such coverage. This company appears to be the most expensive coverage in the U.S.A. for elders, but their rates are based on facts, not wishes. I dropped my company coverage when I went on Medicare. My wife will drop hers next month when she begins to be covered by Medicare. We can't afford it either. Q. "I lost my job where I worked for 19 years. I am 63 and wanted to work until I was 65, but they laid me off and as much as admitted they wanted somebody younger in the job. Is there anything I can do against such an awful company that doesn't care about its em ployees who have been loyal?" - Edward E. A. Edward has a good case. He can go to his local Equal Em ployment Opportunity office and present his case. The phone number in his city is 792-8737.
