In 1907, when this council was formed, it was the order's silver jubilee year, with only 150,000 members. Today there are more than a million. Church Opens Pony j Express "Run" Sunday A "irail boss" brunch following Sunday morning's worship service will signal the start of a Pony Express "run" at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church. Church members on the Pony Express run will become saddlebag carrying "trail bosses" and "route riders" during the next few weeks in their church's steward ship campaign. The Pony Express approach does not require the signing of pledge cards. Rather, it invites members to "estimate" the amount they will contribute to the church during the coming year. Each Pony Express route will have a saddlebag bearing the names of 10 church families. A family fills in its "estimate of giving" card, seals it in an envelope, inserts it in the sad dlebag, and then delivers the bag to another family along the route. The teamwork necessary for the Pony Express stewardship "run" to be a success is similar to that of the Pony Express of more than a century ago. Each rider knew that he could count on the iiext rider to relay the mail to its next destination. The Rev. Roger Schneider ex plained that just as the success of the original Pony Express depended upon the riders' personal commitment and their ability to work as a team, the success of a church depends upon the dedication, commitment, and teamwork of each member. Station agents during the Poqy Express drive include Scott and Colleen Campbell, Brian and Mfeke Cunat, Tom and Helen Hankins, and Alice Hughs, Jim and M*j| Kinder, Hal and Shirley Kively^Bd and Gloria Mack, Ed and Jan Mauer, Bob Mellum, and Erv and Ruth Staveteig. Roger Krause is general manager of the Pony Express "run".
