LAKELAND PARK & LAKELAND SHORES Carol Corriinsky 305-7246 Vandals Hit Parked Dredge It has been called to my attention that young people are still vandalizing the dredge parked in the 4800 block of Shorp drive on the lake. This is private property and they have no business trespassing. The people who care so much about our lake,, the ones who give their time maintaining the dredge are very upset that their hard work is for naught. These people have a hard enough lime getting the money for normal repairs; they don't need this unnecessary vandalism. The kids are approaching the dredge by walking on the ice but this could prove disasterous because the ice is very weak around the dredge. I was also asked to warn snowmobilers that the ice is weak there and they should keep their heavy machines away from the area fc. • ENTRANCE CLOSED The Home avenue entrance to the McHenry Market Place is closed for the first few weeks of January. This area is well travelled by residents of Lakeland Park and is in need of repairs. The city has agreed to provide some maintenance of the »t. Both Home avenue and In- ^trial drive will be blocked off at the rthwest section of the shopping er from Jan. 3 through Jan. 12. FAMOUS SON Plitricia Mueller and Robert Williams are the proud parents of a son born Dec. 17, in McHenry hospital. Seven lb., nine oz., Brian was the cutie pie seen 4n local newspapers all wrapped up in a Christmas stocking ready to go home. It was a very special holiday at their home on Clearview when this package arrived. MEETING The Lakeland Park Property Owners association will have its monthly meeting tonight, Jan. 5. All residents are invited to be at the community house at 8 p.m. WINTER BLAHS Now that we are recuperating from the hectic holidays and 'Old Man Winter' is upon us I find most people forget this poor reporter looking for news. Brattain. The old, yet ever new, story of the Christ child which has never failed to interest the multitudes down through the ages, was shown in all the majesty as the angel appeared bearing tidings of great joy, the shepherds worshipped at the crib of the Christ cWd and the wise men followed the star to the manger bed. Misses Leone Freund, Frances Hughes and Dorothy Wormley, who are taking nurses' training at St. Theresa's hospital at Waukegan, are enjoying a week's vacation at their homes in thisQcity. Last week they received their caps which are worn after three months' training has been accomplished, and of which the girls are justly proud. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 31, 1942) McHenry county farmers needing new machinery for 1943 must make applications between now and Jan. 15. No applications will be accepted after that date. The rationing committee PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY. Mrs. A.J. Wirtz has been a medical patient at the Woodstock hospital for a few days. ' * In the bowling news Agne^ Freund bowled 499 and Gus hit 510 to lead the mixed gang. Nick Freund had a 201 game in a 451 series, so never mind his other games. Marian Krause started with 220 and rolled up a 560 series in beating the Dairy girls. Rovena Marshall was way up there with 530 and Helen Conway had a 180 game. TWENTY - FIVE YEARS AGO (Tak6n from the files of December 26, 1957). There were a few unhappy moments during the past year to serve as a balance for too great optimism. Taxpayers learned with regret that the assessed valuation in the county had risen and McHenry was the second high among the townships. - Miss Ann Loretta Weber of Clark college, Dubuque, la., is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Mary Miller master-minded the many details that assured the best^Lalents of each would come to i^ie fore when somebody sounded the lunch bell at 2 p.m. Two of the newest girls brought special treats. There was Joyce Mitacek, a professional with appetizers. Then there was Mildred Jeschke, of Nor wegian descent, who brought a homemade sandwich loaf with a recipe straight from the old country. McHenry County, Department of . Health has moved to the new cour thouse, which is across from Nor- thwood school on Seminary avenue (North Route 47), Woodstock. Water has the rare property of being lighter per cubic inch as a solid than as a liquid. If this were not true, a lake would freeze from the bottom up instead of the other way around. 0 FRANKLIN •SALE!
