Bundle up these cold days but don't forget to take your sweater off when you come into a warm room. by Kurt Begalka SHAW MEDIA NEWS SERVICE A 30-year franchise agreement * between General Telephone Co. of Illinois and the Village of Richmond wasn't due to expire until November. But GTE had no desire to remain on hold. Under the agreement, the village is protected from liability for any damage claims stemming from telephone operations. In addition, it will receive about $400 more each year in compensation. In turn, GTE has permission to place poles, wires and facilities on municipal property. " ' The current franchise allows the village three business private lines, or the equivalent in other com munication services, with a ceiling of $502 per year. - In the proposed franchise, Rich mond will receive three-fourths of one percent of the annual local service revenue billing within the corporate limits of the village and of those calls originating in Richmond and ter minating in another toll-free ex change. That means calls to Spring Grove, which is located in the, same zone, will be included in the compensation. Long-distance calls are not included and there are no call-packs. "Today the technology and the amount of investment does not allow this additional service at a profit," said GTE Records Supervisor. Paul Devor. Based" on the December 1981 monthly billing, the village will MILDRED JACKSON receive $992 under the percentage Mildred M. Jackson, 72, of arrangement. There are about 39^ McHenry, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, in '"the emergency room of McHenry the per the be homes in Richmond Franchise agreements cut through red tape, allowing the company to get new easements without board ap proval. The cash settlement is more flexible than a service settlement. As the village grows in size, it will receive additional money. Another important consideration was that during the past 18 months the services provided to satisfy the current franchise exceeded . maximum amount by $11.65 month. A cash settlement for difference must be made then. The 10-year agreement can ended by -either party, if written notice is given 60 days in advance. Village President Bruce Hunter said he expects the agreement to receive legal approval and be in GTE's hands by Feb. 1. Trustees sought a clause in the agreement guaranteeing the -village that no other municipality would receive a higher percentage than three-fourths of one percent, but Devor's assurances will have to be enough. Such a provision would "alter the standardness of the format," Devor said. "The standardness of the wording in and of itself assures equity." Instead of a metal roasting rack, place meat or poultry on a base of criss-crossed carrots and celery sticks. Makes for flavorful pan drippings. For hot, buttered corn, fill a large quart jar with hot water and sticks of butter. When butter melts and floats to the top, dip in the cobs and pull out slowly. a Harold B. Llgon, MD The best treatment for tinae barbae is Griseofulvin, orally. Sometimes cortisone is used.effectively. A strange and mysterious skin manifestation is called the "id" reaction. This is a fungus-free lesion elsewhere on the body, caused by the active fungal process. It is thought to be a hypersensitivety reaction to the fungus itself. Therefore, don't be surprised if. when you visit a doctor for a spot on your neck. arm. etc.. he asks you to take off your shoes and let him see your toes. In all likelihood, you are experiencing an id reaction and the doctor's treatment of your athlete's foot will probably result in a resolu tion*"of the lesion, which brought about your visit to the doctor. Therefore, treatment of the id reaction consists of treatment of the underlying fungal cause -with oral Griseofulvin. or local applica tion of Tinactin to the fungus site. Application of medica tion to the id reaction will be ineffective.
