Two lecture luncheon events remain, and they are scheduled for Feb. 3 and Apr. 14. The February lecture luncheon will be held at Crystal Lake Country club, 721 Country Club road, Crystal Lake, and will feature the Konrad Family Singers. Costumed in authentic Austrian attire, the family's musical selections range from European and American folk ballads to modern MR. AND MRS. BERNARD BAUER Bernard and Catherine Bauer, shown above on the occasion of their Golden Anniversary ten years ago, are now celebrating their Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary. Past Presidents' Parley Chairman, Mrs. Gordon (Becky) Gabel of Fox River Grove, 11th District, American Legion auxiliary, has announced rules for candidates. . u^,n They must be in senior year or a graduate of an accredited high school and in need of financial assistance to continue education. Scholarships are to be used for two-year or more courses in an accredited school or hospital. t A letter from applicant stating why he-she wants to be a nurse is required, plus financial status of family and-or resources available. A photograph or clear snapshot of the applicant is also necessary. The scholarship amount of $500 will be dispersed in one check at the Parley banquet in July. The basis of judging is as follows: Pursuit of nursing career - 25 percent; character rating - 20 percent; scholastic rating, 25 percent; financial need, 30 percent. Any young lady or young man in terested in obtaining the nurse scholarship may contact Mrs. Gabel in Fox River Grove, or any American Legion auxiliary member in this area. Dance-A-Thon Aids Easter Seal Fund Registration is under way for the sijcth annual Easter Seal-WXRD FM 24-hour Dance-A-Thon scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 5-6, 11 arm. to 11 a.m. in the McHenry County college cafeteria. ;Jenny Van Treese, Public Relations-Community Education director for the easter Seal Society for McHenry County stated, "Everyone who dances is in for one of the nrQst fun, memory-building experiences of their lives. Not only do they have the satisfaction of knowing that every minute they dance helps raise much needed funds for disabled youngsters and adults of McHenry county, the people behind the scenes donating the music, entertainment, air-time, food, and the great lineup of major prizes make this a never-to-be-forgotten experience!" Top prize for the dancer collecting the most money will be an all-expense paid weekend for two (three days and two nights) at a Lake Geneva, Wis., resort. Other prizes include a personal computer, an opal and garnet ring, a man's wristwatch, a 12" TV, cross country skis, a racing car set, a $50 check and a $50 savings bond. Social hour for the Feb. 3 program is 11:30 a.m., with lunch served at 12:15 p.m. and the program at 1:15 p.m. To join for the winter session of the series, there is a membership fee, plus the luncheon fee. It is not necessary to be a member of the hospital's auxiliary in order to join this program. Jan. 28 is the deadline for reservations for the Konrad Family Singers. Costumes, quips, and poems are highlighted in their dynamic presentation. This lecture luncheon will be held at the Anvil club in Dundee, and the initial membership fee covers both events. Veterans Of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Benefits Several Charitable Causes The January meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 was opened by President Gerry Kuck with the posting of colors and the prayer. The auxiliary accepted applications for membership from Vicki Bradley and Dorothy Race; also, the transfer of Ellen Slutzman from Colorado. Cancer Aid and Research chairman Barb Bryniarski reported the auxiliary has donated $539 to the program, which averages $3 per member; this is over the quota set by the national organization. She stated there has been an increase in the amount of cancer grants to members from the national auxiliary. According to the National Home bulletin received by the auxiliary, the president of the State of Illinois Ladies Auxiliary is holding a special fund drive, entitled, "Peg's Rosebug". The purpose is to make it possible for the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home to purchase a < small compact" car for thoMmany1 trips* ndaessaryt&v transport residents of the national ' home in the area of the home. Legislative chairman, Edna Olson, encouraged members to write to their congressmen on all issues, but especially on veterans' issues. Anne Scarbrough stated that she had delivered the non-perishable food items donated by the auxiliary members to FISH. At the same lime, she delivered over three dozen toys which had been donated by a post member. She requested any member knowing of a veteran or veteran's family in need to contact her or Wally, the club manager. Political Action committee chairman, Phyl Harper, advised that by the auxiliary participating with donations, it is credited on Americanism and Community Ser vice. Ila Hogan, auxiliary Hospital chairman and State of Illinois Deputy at North Chicago Medical Center, reported she had delivered to Lincoln Developmental center handmade items given to the auxiliary by "Willing Workers" of McHenry. r^^Sr^^taiTcredit of over IBM) for items such as tooth paste, tooth brushes and other personal articles delivered to North Chicago Medical Center. The Auxiliary preside^ special project for November ami December provided three dozen tooth brushes and three dozen tubes of tooth paste. Ila expressed concern over out patients at the medical center not receiving as much help in the way of meals at the medical center. Membership chairman Ila Hogan stated the auxiliary is 93 percent in paid membership. Funeral chairman Gerry Kuck reported the auxiliary hadserved two funeral luncheons during the month of December. The auxiliary charter was draped by the conductress in memory of Clara Thompson who served as 1938- 39 state of Illinois president. The auxiliary will donate $25 to sponsor a day's refreshments by the USO at O'Hare airport.
