Each year, tens of thousands of volunteers have asked friends and neighbors to come to the aid of our unborn and newborn. Their support is urgent, for some quarter-million babies are born each year with physical or mental handicaps. The Mothers March, now in progress in McHenry, originated in 1950 in phoenix. Arizona, and con tinued as a major - fund-raising ac tivity for the March of Dimes after the transition from polio to birth defects. Mothers and fathers, alike carry on in the same spirit, dedicated to protecting our nation's children and families from birth defects. Today, funds contributed to the Mothers March support March of Dimes programs of research, medical services, and public and professional education to prevent birth defects. It is the devotion of volunteers and generosity of the public that enable the March of Dimes to carry on these programs. HOW 10 SUBSCRIBE TO THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Feb. 28, March 7,14,21 and 28, April 4, 11 and 18 at the McHenry County Historical society museum, 6422 Main street, Union. The overwhelming success of these antiques classes last year prompted the society to offer them again as part of an effort to extend the usefulness of its museum to residents of the area. Museum Curator Nancy Pike emphasized the worth of the course for learning and enjoyment by recalling the extensive background of the Parenti teaching team. The Parentis have been associated with antiques, both as students and collectors, for at least 30 years, 20 of them spent in actual antiques dealing and appraising. Mrs. Parenti is well known in the area as a lecturer to various women's organizations, including appearances as part of the Woodstock Fine Arts series of cultural programs held in the Opera House. Mr. Parenti is equally well known, but to a different audience. For several years, in cluding last year, he served as judge of the antiques exhibit at the McHenry County Fair. Persons wishing additional in formation about the eight-week an tiques course are urged to contact the museum, 815-923-2267. VA generally argues there is no proof linking radiation exposure to later ailments. It says people are prone to illness as they get older and many who suffer diseases like a cancer look everywhere for a reason for their affliction. Groups like the National Association of Atomic Veterans seek to have Congress pass laws specifying benefits for vets exposed to radiation while on active duty. The McHenry Plaindealer 3812 W.
