ALMA HERMAN Mrs. Alma Herman, 76, of Island Lake, died Saturday, April 30, in Fair o?ks Nursing home, Crysta? Lake Mrs. Herman was born in Oklahoma Jan. 26, 1907. She had resided in this area for the past 36 years. Survivors are (Hie son, John Willard, of Island Lake; one daughter, Merrily Fantus, of Cupertino, Calif. ; and three grandchildren. The body rested at the Island Lake funeral home, where services were conducted Tuesday. Burial was in Windridge cemetery, jTary. HAROLD MORRIS Harold F. Morris, 77, of McHenry, died Monday, May 2, at McHenry hospital. He was born Dec. 17,1905, in Greenwood, HI., the son of William and Jessie (Kinney) Morris. Mr. Morris was a lifetime resident. of McHenry county; had been a farmer on the Crystal Lake blacktop for many years; from 1949 to 1969, owned Morris Salvage Co.; and lived in Oakhurst subdivision from 1970 until 1978, when he went to Royal Terrace Care Center. Surviving is. his wife, the former Edith Malsch, whom he married Oct. 14, 1966 in Richmond, 111. Also, 14 children, Walter of Round Lake; Harold, Arthur, Mrs. Ronald (Vivian) Peterson, Mrs. James (Shirley) Cassen and Mrs. Jeffrey (Beverly) Chappel of Crystal Lake; Elsie Munson, and Virgil and Gerald Crouse of . McHenry; Charlene and Dawn Crouse of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; Jessie, William and Susan Morris of Wauconda. -- * Other survivors are nine grand­ children; and two sisters, Cora Morris and Eva Schucart. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, in September, 1973. Visitation is scheduled Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to the time of service at 11:30 a.m. in the George R. Justpn & Son funeral home, with interment in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. The family requests no flowers. RICHARD JANICKI Richard B. Janicki, 63, of McH< died Monday, May 2, 'at Shepherd hospital, Barrington. He was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Evanston, 111. In 1959, Mr. Janicki moved from Rogers Park to McHenry; and became a member of the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, McHenry. He had worked for various laundry and dry cleaning services; and for the last 12 years, owned and operated Village Cleaners. Surviving are his wife Alice (Krans) whom he married Oct. 16, 1943, in Evanston; a daughter, Mrs. John (Linda) Myers of McHenry; one son, Bernard of Seattle, Wash.;itWb"' grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Sally) Pacek of Des Plaines, Helen Chrustek of Chicago; Harriett Kuqzek of Rolling Meadows; and Lucelle Steimle of Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was preceded in death by his brother George and a sister, Ann Schiazza. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Mary's church with Father James Gaynor officiating and interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the George R. Jus ten & Son funeral home. Memorials may be made in his name to the Heart fund or Masses. ELIZABETH SCHRECKEIS Elizabeth Schreckeis, 84, of 7428 South drive, Wonder Lake, died Sunday, May i, in her home. She was born Aug. 28, 1896, in Vukovai, Yugoslavia, to Jacob and Rosalia (Ebli) Keller. On Nov. 25,1920, in Yugoslavia, she married Anton Schreckeis, who died Dec. 18, 1973. .« Mrs. Schreckeis is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. Visitation was scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a Christian Wake service at 7, at Freund funeral home, Wonder Lake, where a Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wed­ nesday. Burial will be in Christ the King cemetery. ANNA RITTER Anna M. Ritter of McHenry died Saturday, April 30,9 at McHenry hospital. She was 58 years old, born in Elmwdod Park, 111. Dec. 27, 1924, to Ludwig Emil and Marie (Hoffmann) Theis. Mrs. Ritter lived in McHenry bout 27 years, having come from Elmwood Park. She had been a waitress at Raymond's Bowl, Johnsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred G. Ritter, Sr., Dec. 7, 1970; a son, Alfred G., Dec. 17, 1963; and a brother, Peter E. Theis, in 1969. Surviving are one son, Jack Stephen and a daughter Lisa Marie Ritter, both of McHenry; two grandsons, Brian and Peter Ritter; her mother, Marie Theis of Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. Fred (Helen M.) Olson of Mt. Prospect. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home, with Pastor Rogert W. Schneider of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church officiating and burial in Woodland cemetery, McHenry. Friends called from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday. { . EUGENE MAY Eugene "Gene" May, 52, of Spring Grove, died Saturday evening, April 30, at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock, following a long illness. He was born April 27,1931, in Spring Grove, the son of Frank and Mathilda (Kattner) May. A lifetime resident, Mr.N May graduted from Richmond high school in 1948; attended the College of Ad­ vanced Transportation; was a traffic supervisor at Morton Chemical, Ringwood, for 31 years; and a member of St. Peter's Catholic church. He was the current mayor of Spring Grove; former Burton Township supervisor; township clerk and village clerk; member of "the McHenry County Township Officials Assn.; republican precinct committee member; and an election judge. Also, member of the McHenry County Board; member and officer of Spring Grove Fire department; member of the Woodstock Moose; one of the founders of Burton-Richmond Little League; and a real estate salesman for J. P. Molinaro Real Estate. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Lou Molinaro, whom he married May 23, 1953, in Richmond; three daughters, Cynthia of Spring Grove and twins, Valerie of Spring Grove and Victoria of Tampa, Fla.; four sons, ifavid of Tampa, Gary of Brea, Calif., and Bradley and James, both of Spring Grove. Other survivors are his mother, Mathilda May of Spring Grove; a sister, Mrs. Stanley (Lorraine) Freund of McHenry; and two brothers, Arnold N. and Frank May, both of Richmond. f He was preceded in death by his father in 1958. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's church, with Father John Kilduff officiating and interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was scheduled from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a Vigil Wake service at 7:30, at Ehorn-Adams funeral home. Memorials may be made in his name to the Spring Grove Rescue Squad. Services were held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Babione funeral home in Boca Raton. RUBY HEfcGESEN . Ruby Owen Helgesen of Fox Lake died Thursday, April 28, at Liber- tyville Manor Care Center. She was 73 years old, born in Clinton, 111. July 10, 1909, the daughter of Lee and Sarah (Sullivan) Ely. A retired secretary-bookkeeper, Mrs. Helgesen lived in Fox Lake about four years and was formerly of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Oliver Owen on Aug. 18, 1973; and her second husband, Clarence Helgesen, June 9, 1979. Surviving are one son, Dr.-Edwin L. Owen of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Martha E. Holland of Fox Lake; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home, with Pastor Roger W. Schneider of Shepherd of the Hius Lutheran church officiating and burial in Woodland, cemetery, McHenry. FJght Barn Fire The McHenry Fire department was called to 3704 Miller road, Spring Grove, m response to a reported barn fire. McHenry Fire Chief Glenn Peterson said the fire was actually in Spring Grove's district, noting that Miller road is the dividing line. Men and equipment from all three McHenry Fire companies, Richmond Fire and Wonder Lake Fire depart­ ments assisted Spring Grove at the fire. Chief Peterson said the roof of the structure, actually a large shed, had fallen in before the first units arrived. The fire broke out shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday, May 2. Among Best For Law Day by Angela Burden 4 SHAW MCOtA NEWS SEtVICE The top three essays on "What the Law Means to Me", one written by a McHenry student, were read by the McHenry County Bar association contest winners at Friday morning's Law day ceremonies in the county courthouse. During the ceremonies, presided over by Judge Roland Herrmann, the bar association presented its annual Liberty Bell Award to Ralph and Doris Wagner, of Alden. The couple has served as foster parents in Investigate Thefts McHenry police arrested and charged James Fallon, 28, 2706 N. Iroquois, McHenry, in connection with the theft of a 1982 Cadillac from Brookfield, Wis, last October. Fallon was charged with theft over $300. He posted bond and was released. McHenry County Sheriff^ police were called to the Village Market, Wonder Lake, where Trudy Miller, 53, 3124 E. Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake, was being detained for shoplifting. She was charged with theft under $300. James R. Petersen, 34, 407 Mineral Springs, McHenry, was arrested for theft under $300 after he reportedly stole a quantity of juice from the After The Fox tavern on Riverside Drive. William Creager, 1116 Northeast Shore drive, McHenry, reported the theft of a sailboat and trailer from his property late last.week. Robert Miller, called the police when he found that someone had stolen a quantity of tools from a vehicle parked at his residence. Wayne Meyer, 1008 Dale Ave., McHenry, reported the theft of a jewelry box, $40 and a television set from the residence. McHenry county to several hundred children. Mark Gummerson was chairman of the Law day committee and Tom Rausch chaired the essay contest. The theme of "Sharing In Justice" was raised, too, when Leahy presented the Liberty Bell award to the Wagners, who have shared their lives and their home with more than 975 foster children. The bar association honored the couple for their "dedicated and faith­ ful service during 35 years as foster parents, helping guide the youngsters in the right direction."
