'Fifth of July' soars Richard Thomas and Swoosie Kurtz, who co-starred in the Broadway production of "Fifth of July," will recreate their roles for television when "American Playhouse" broadcasts the highly acclaimed comedy. Tuesday, May 10 on PBS. (Please check local listings for time.) The story takes place in a sprawling, rundown farm house in Missouri that has been owned by the Talley family for genera tions. For the first time in many years, a group of family mem bers and old college friends, most of whom were political agi tators in the 1960s, have gathered together one Fourth of July weekend. Among those present are Kenneth Talley, (played by Thomas,) an embittered veteran of the Vietnam War who has come home emotionally and physically scarred (he is a paraplegic); Kenneth's friend; his sister and a young heiress (played by Miss Kurtz) who wishes to'purchase the farm house and convert it into a recording studio. REVIEWS The Ramones -- "Subter ranean Jungle" (Sire) -- After 10 albums, the Ramones Meat Loaf are watching the rest of the musical world catch up to them. Rock 'n' roll comes out of the boardrooms and returns to the gutter where it belongs. And so the Ramones -- with their three-chord /two-minute songs, leather jackets and garage mentality -- have at last become trendy. This may nofbe their best'album, but it does have two of the world's best remakes ("Little Bit O' Soul" and "Time Has Come Today"), and even the slight possibility of commercial success.
