REDUCEDCARE Governor Thompson warned last week that without significant new state revenues, Illinois faces reduced care in state institutions for the developmentally disabled and at least 500 fewer people being served in Fiscal 1984 in community settings. Thompson said the cutbacks in fun­ ding will total $8 million in less than two years. "Funding for community services to the developmentally disabled more than doubled from Fiscal Year 1978 to Fiscal Year 1983. His photography on the floor of the legislative senate and the new high- rise I.R.S. building in Springfield demonstrated the skills that judges placed as the "best in Illinois Skill Olympics". Derfus developed and mounted his work at the Capital Area Vocational center under the super­ vision of contest judges. Other awards were given to: West Campus - second place, Commercial Sewing, senior, Jennifer Koss; fourth place, Commercial Sewing, senior, Linda Altergott. East Campus - third place, Com­ mercial Food Trades, senior, Penny Schultz; fourth place, Commercial Art, junior, Marty Koleno; fourth place, Plumbing and Pipefitting, junior, Jeff Greany; and Gold Medal, VICA Corps Achievement, junior, • Terri Rossetti. The pressure of the skill contests helps prepare students to understand ' the need for in-depth knowledge, skill and judgment. Each student returned •' to McHenry with a new self-' confidence about their future and determination to continue their" education and training. Many of the competitors are junior level students adn they have plans to return to competition next year. The McHenry high competitors included: East Campus - Chris Adams, Auto Body; Claudia Budaj, Job Interview; Randy Dawdy, Woodworking; Clayton Lane and Kelly Brough, Graphic Communications; and Jon Lynk, Region 2 president.
