PAGE 4 - PLAINDEALER • WEDNESDAY, MAY 18,1*3 EARL WALSH So I Hear tick Hi Earl, Last year you had an article about not seeing apple blossoms in McHenry proper. Please take a ride through Southgate Apts. Complex and see our beautiful trefes. They should be in full bloom by this weekend- through the next two weeks or so. ~ t A sight to behold, Regards, Juanita Hi to you, Juanita, " Alvina and I took a ride through Southgate and found those trees to be really beautiful. We are going back again in about a week. There really is beauty to be found if we open our eyes. 'Twas nice to hear from you. : S.I.H. A discussion of old time wood- burning cook stoves brought back memories. I swear that homemade bread coming out of one of those ovens had an aroma and taste that couldn't be matched. He had me fooled. Just found out Bill Singer's age and resolved to treat him with due respect. Jerry Miller, now a Whispering Oaker, noted my offer as a pinch runner for those aging Cub in- fielders. Last Thursday Shortstop Bowa hit one over the fence. It made Jerry so happy he phoned to say if his favorites can do that, they won't need a runner. "Thanks just the same for offering to help us", said Jerry. "Any time", says I. Dr. Sturm of Wonder Lake toured down from his home to join the Bimbo crowd and introduced us to his "three daughters". How about Mom and two daughters? (They have seven!) When my memory was refreshed, it came back that the doctor and Harry Conway once had identical jackets. Where do you suppose it was mentioned? Dr. Sturm wondered if the model young man mentioned in the 40-year items was the same Dick,W.eber he knew. Oh, Sure! What is so rare as a day in June unless a 9-inning pitcher. I'm getting a little tired pf filling out forms for big prizes. Winning a new car! All the dollars I have spent on chances over the years would buy a buggy of some kind. Dear Earl, I dunno', Earl, the way I always heard Mr. Guest quoted was, "It takes a heap o'lovin' to make a home a house". Best, John P.S. In spite of your failing memory, I really thought the essay was most appropriate. Dear John, „ You didn't say I could print your letter -- nor did you say I couldn't. The last name is Looze. One of the most amusing hap penings in my life was calling on a rich man and finding him in the basement soaking his feet - and complaining about the cost of soap. I know a girl who has so many old fashioned ideas it wouldn't surprise me to see her drive a horse and buggy to go shopping -- if they had hitching posts nowadays. Looking through our bird book, we see two pages of different kinds of sparrows. In the bode they look beautiful. i were the salhe And felt forever grateful to the English for sending them to us. Globetrotter Rauen is back home from his travels. I can't see any change in him unless it be a sun tan. There was a time when most win dow shades were green and most cars were black. Heard the question, "Why do people get married on Saturday?" All I know is that in depression years they had to get back to work on Monday. Short honeymoon, but a job was a job. Heartening signs : Men Working Help Wanted Our neighborhood has changed. When Bill Kreutzer was alive, he awas a great one to lend a helping hand. Before Ford Hanford became in capacitated, he was the man with the tools to help a neighbor. Then there was Ed Doyle! McHenry Fire Chief Glenn Peterson said the building was found locked when fire fighters arrived at the scene and entry was made, through the windows. The floor furnace had apparently burned the floor supports and it was also assumed a gas line malfunction spread the fire to the ceiling an attic area.
