May 20,1983) No. 830220 WALL STREET to MAIN STREET Believe it or not, millions of of Americans have never made a direct investment in a stock. In fact, in the past fifteen years the nation's stockholder population has barely grown at all. There were 30 million shareholders in the United States in 1968. By 1973, the number had fallen to 25 million and, according to the latest New York Stock Exchange sur veys, the figure is now a little over 32 million. If you are among those who have never invested in the stock market, what should you do if you want to take that initial step? First, you should determine if you have e n o u g h r e a d i l y available money set aside to cover emergencies. Then, you shcould decide what your investment ob jectives are. In other words, how do you want your money to grow-at a modest yet secure rate, or are you seeking greater rewards and thus willing to assume a greater degree of risk? To invest in stocks, you must go through a stockbroker. The broker (many firms call this professional an ac- countyexecutive) acts as an agent in the buying and selling of investments. Buying stocks (and other investments) is a very per£on^l. and ob viously u||bi(frtant ac tivity so >ou should speak to at least a few brokers to find the one with whom you feel most comfortable. Your choice should be someone who un derstands your financial goals and will work and advise you on how best to achieve them. «Ktlna£a % •tj CARPET and I continues the Grand Opening Celebration tsnw INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE OF ANY QUEEN CARPET ... arid this offer includes hundreds of Queen Carpet Remnants & Roll Ends!
