An example is the standard actor's contract. A performer is signed for a one- or two-year period, yet the show retains the option to dismiss him at the end of each 13-week cycle. s the end of the second cycle approaches (the erjd of June), there have, been hirings and firings galore. The teen actress catego ry has been hit hardest. Leaving are Cusi Cram (Cassie Callison, "One Life to Live"); Jennifer Cooke (Morgan Nelson, "Guiding Light"); and Lilibet Stern (Patty Abbot, "Young and Restless"). These dismiss als are curious, since sum mer is approaching -- a time when shows tradition ally focus on teens. Although each of these teens' acting talents have grown, their skills never were 1 as outstanding as their looks. "GL" is the scene of many changes, mainly because the show's new ' producer, Gail Kobe (who did a wonderf^ job in the same position at the late "Texas"), is making her ^wn imprint on the show. From "Texas" she has brought director John Whit^sell. Harley Kozak (ex-Llrette Wheeler) as Jennifer Coo Annabelle, Ton^Reardon's new love interest, and husband-and-wife writers Pam Long and Jay Hammer. The Hammers have cre ated at least six new char acters whose roles are now being cast. To make room for the newcomers, many old faces have been pink- slipped, including Mark Pinter (Mark Evans) and Leslie O'Hare (Rebecca/Mona). / Meanwhile, one of the biggest shocks of the soap opera year is the departure of Henry Sle&r, the brilliant headwriter of "Edge of Night" for the last 15 years. He'll be repfaced by Lee Sheldon, whose credits include "Quincy" and "Charlie's Angel's." Slesar, an undeniable master of mystery and mayhem, made "EON" the most intelligent soap on the air.
