I VULCE FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of July 13, 1933) With $11,000 of motor fuel tax money to be used for the payment of right-of- way on Route 00 from the Lake county line west to Route 01, south of Rich mond, tied up in the American National bank in Woodstock, prospects of the completion of this ioite this year seem thin at the present writing. The board of supervisors voted to give full power to the right-of-way committee to try and %• ; work out some solution to the problem. Gus Freund and Otto Adams have taken over the Math Freund im plement property on Pearl street and are already doing business under the name of Adams and Freund. In ad dition to the implement business, which they will carry on in much the same manner it was conducted by the former owner, they will also do automobile repairing, Mr. Adams being experienced in this work. He was Msgr. Charles S. Nix, who has been pastor of St. Mary's parish in McHenry for the past 22 years. On July 11, he sang a high Mass of Thanksgiving for which the adult choir of St. Mary's sang the Mass. At the last meeting of the American Legion Robert Weidemann was presented with the Eagle Scout pin by' Paul Yanda. Robert leaves for Army service on Aug. 9. In a letter to the Plaindealer, Corp. Thomas F. Bolger writes about Fourth of July celebration at Camp Butner, N. Carolina. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of July 17,1958) The Rev. Eugene C. Baumhofer, pastor of St. Mary's parish in Pecatonica and formerly assistant at St. Mary's Catholic church in McHenry, has been appointed by Bishop Lores T. Lane as superin tendent of the new Central Catholic high school in Woodstock which serves the 13 parishes in McHenry county. Plans were disclosed recently for the new school, which will ac commodate 700 students. It will be erected on a 30-acre tract northeast of Woodstock and will be staffed by the Sisters of Holy Cross, presently teaching at St. Mary's. With some regret the Plaindealer staff saw the former Miller home, next door, torn down. We remember well the many delicious treats which came out of the Moritz-Miller kitchen when the two families were our neigh bors. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of July 18,1973) One of McHenry's most successful Marine Festival weeks came to a close Sunday night when the last drum corps marched onto McCracken field to be awarded its prize in competition. It marked the final in a series of events .which started the previous Sunday with water fights near the city beach. "" The DesPlaines Vanguards, in a majestic field program, claimed top rating with the judges with a score of 70.10. Hawaiian vocalist Bill Fuiava will be guest soloist when the McHenry stage band presents its sixth concert in the city park. , The Lions club of McHenry has joined clubs in Woodstock and Crystal Lake in sponsoring a Mobile 1 Glaucoma Screening unit, professionally staffed and operated by the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. Coronary Club To Hear Doctor The McHenry Heart association is sponsoring a Coronary club for any interested individuals who have had a heart attack or heart surgery, angina, hypertension or other heart problem.
