mm PAGE 2 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, JULY 29,1983 r '• j cA/(o±t[y Social! i Nielsen-Baker Vows Exchanged In McHenry Charise Marie Nielsen of McHenry and Shaun Douglas Baker of Wonder Lake were united in marriage July 23 at a 3 p.m. ceremony conducted by Pastor Roger W. Schneider at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, McHenry. The churcn was decorated with flowers and bows and William Krueger provided a background of songs and guitar music. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter F. Nielsen of McHenry and the groom is the son of Ms. Joanne Sandburg of Wonder Lake. A long, white polyester gown featuring a high collar with a dropped neckline was worn by the bride. The embroidered lace sleeves were puffed at the shoulder and slimmed to a fitted style from elbow to wrist. The bodice of the dropped waist gown was em bellished with simulated pearls and intricate embroidery. The dress was completed with a scalloped, lace- trimmed train. The bride wore a hat with silk flowers, lace trim and a short face veil with a waist-length back veil, trimmed in nylon. The groom wore a silver tuxedo with a ruffled shirt. Karla Pollock of McHenry acted as maid-of-honor and bridesmaids were Kelly Kozicki, Tamee Baker and Norma Garrett, all of McHenry. Miss Pollock wore a peach, lustrous polyester gown with rayon and cotton Venetian lace trim. A draped front and back neckline gave a cape-effect. The gown, chosen to complement the bridal ensemble, featured a slightly raised waistline and a bow trim at the shoulders. The bridesmaids chose bustleback gowns of sheer polyester with lining. A bow-trimmed neckline and ruffled collar formed capelet sleeves. A flared skirt with flounced hem flowed from the set-in waist with a flower of the same fabric at the back. Each dress was an individual color in cluding maize, blue and suede rose. Bill Seeber of Wonder Lake served as bestman to the groom. Marty Folliard, Kenny Johansson and Jeff Jackson all of Wonder Lake, were groomsmen. They wore silver tuxedos and ruffled shirts which matched the bridesmaid's gowns. Mrs. Nielsen, the bride's mother, chose a blue-grey chifton aress with ruffles at the dropped neckline and also trimming the long sleeves. Ms. Sandburg, the mother of the groom, was attired in a powder blue chiffon •dress featuring a dropped neckline with cascade ruffles, long sleeves and a slim skirt. Following the wedding a recep tion for about 185 guests was held at the Johnsburg Community club. The couple is enjoying a ten-dav honeymoon in Orlando, Fla. They plan to make their home at 3111 Shady Drive, Wonder Lake. The new Mrs. Baker is a 1962 graduate of Johnsburg high school and the groom was graduated from McHenry Community high school West Campus in 1981. She is employed as a Central Service aide at McHenry hospital and he works for Carey Appliance, McHenry. MR. AND MRS. There were thirty-four in at tendance when the T.H.E.O.S. group began the "White Elephant" sale at their annual group picnic, which was held at the home of Mae Stinespring. Unfortunately, just as everything was set up outside for the sale - the downpour came -- so with lots of rushing about everything was moved inside and the fun began. The en thusiastic auctioneer kept things moving at a rapid pace, and everyone had quite a lot of fun out-bidding each other on the various items; thus enriching the depleted group treasury. Time out was taken to enjoy the very delicious catered dinner - and then the sale was resumed until all "white elephants" were sold. It was a very social and fun get-together and newcomers were made most weteonje. T.H.E.O.S. (To Smile) is a very casual, warm and friendly group, for widows (widowers are also welcome), meeting the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at some local restaurant for dinner together, and then going to the First United Methodist church for an evening of fun and fellowship. COMMUNITY CALENDAR How safer? Install child-proof latches on cabinets where household cleaners and chemicals are stored, put safety caps over unused electrical outlets, and don't leave matches where little hands will find them. Install smoke and fire detectors. Use a hand tool only for the work it's designed to perform. Fabric scissors might cut cardboard, but utility snips will do the job safely, easily and without damage. A blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker signals a fault in the system. Find out where and why! Some household paints are flam mable or vapor harmful. Read the labels!
