Most sheep showmen come from the county's WOODSTOCK -- Free bus service from downtown Woodstock tip the McHenry County Fair has been planned by three organizations. Harold Buschkopf, chairman of the com mittee coordinating the free service, said buses will run Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 3-6, from noon to 6 p.m. during the fair. The free service will enable people to shop and dine at the square, perhaps while some members of the family enjoy the fair, then be able to join the family at the f a i r t h r o u g h e a s i l y - a v a i l a b l e transportation. The bus will leave from the Calhoun Street side of the Woodstock Opera House at 15 minutes after the hour and will leave the Harding Real Estate parking lot across from the fair entrance on South Illinois 47 at . 15 minutes before the hour during the six hours of service. Sponsors are the Woodstock Square Pro motion Group, the McHenry County Fair Association and Pioneer Center, which is providing the mini-buses. Queen Costume Lead contest features sheep WOODSTOCK -- All family members of sheep entrants are invited to take part in a new and clever event during the McHenry County Fair, the Queen Costume Lead contest. Linda Ainger, McHenry County Lamb and Wool Queen, is the energetic organizer of this attraction, aimed at involving parents, younger children and other fami ly members in this fun dress-up project. It will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, after the conclusion or the 2 p.m. Ladies Lead Class. To help promote the event, those in the Indies Lead Class and this Queen Costume Lead contest will parade around the grounds to drum up interest. McHenry County is proud to include its three present state queens as sponsors of the event, along with Linda Ainger of Har- Richmond, 1983 Illinois Dorset Queen; Karen Kantlehener, 1983 Illinois Lamb and Wool Queen; and Carol Geske of Woodstock, 1982 Illinois Shropshire Queen. Ainger said the Queen Costume contest is open to any member of an exhibiting sheep family. The sheep must be condi tioned, fitted and trained to show at halter. Scoring will be based on costume of contes tant, appearance of the sheep and control and presentation. The Ladies Lead Class is a popular event for those in the sheep business. This is a fashion show and an example of great showmanship. The ladies lead female sheep at halter, wear wool garments and present an overall look of style and class.
