That week, called N a t i o n a l H a n d i c a p p e d Awareness Week, has since been renamed National, Disabled Americans Week, and will be celebrated Oct. 16-22. After evaluating the original name and contacting various advocacy groups on tne subject of protrayal, it was decided that the new name should reflect the strength and spirit of the 36 million men, women and children with disabilities in the United States. This observance, honoring a determination and "I will" spirit is in keeping with the nation's Decade of the Disabled, 1982-1992. Throughout history, the goal's aspirations and accomplishments of persons with disabilities have been an inspiration to all.
