OCTOBER 211*3 I ART & DRAWING Thii year the McHenr: Parks Department is fering an Art Class for rades 6 through 8 and a eginning Drawing Class for Adults. These classes are as follows: Art Grades 6-8 - 8-week course beginning Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 2:45-3:45 at McHenry Junior High School. Art Grades 6-8 - 8-week course beginning Thursday, Oct. 27, from 2:45-3:45 at Parkland Junior High School. Beginning Drawing For Adults: 8-week course beginning Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 7:00-8:30 at Parkland Junior High School. TAP DANCE Starting Oct. 22, {lie City of McHenry Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a tap class for 4 to 15-year-olds. This 28-week course will be held at Parkland Junior High School from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. This class is for both girls and boys who enjoy rhythm with style. AMERICAN JAZZ Enjoy learning the unique jazz fundamentals which have become so popular since Fame and Flasn dance. This afternoon class is on Saturdays, from 1:45 to 2:45. It will be held at Parkland Junior High School beginning Oct. 22 running for 28 weeks. This class is for both boys and girls from ages 10 to 15. PRENATAL CLASS Pregnant women are invited to join the new prenatal exercise class. This doctor-approved program will turn nine aching months into nine fun months of exercising. Each session will run for six weeks. Beginning Oct. 25, the afternoon class will be held at McHenry Public Library from 2-3 on Tuesday and Thursday. The evening class will be held at Parkland Junior High School from 7-8 on Monday and Wednesday beginning Oct. 24. BALLET CLASSES Ballerinas of all ages are urged to sign up for the winter ballet classes.^These classes will not start until January, 1984; however registrations are now being taken. Following are the different classes available: Pre-Ballet-Creative Rhythmic Movement, Ages 4-6-Focus on body rhythm spatial awareness, and mo tor development. Designed to stimulate imagination, perception^ self expression and confidence. Ballet I: Ages 6-15 -- Provides new and rewarding experience for the early grade beginner with Sbasic autonomy of ballet technique. Ballet II; Ages 7-15 - Will emphasize the elementary foundations of ballet this adult jazz exercise class that starts next January. The instructor's years of ballet training have aided her in the study of exercise for v the body. This evening class begins Thursday, Jan. 5, at 8 a fid will be held at Parkland Junior High School. On Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m., members of the Historic Sites Committee of the McHenry County Historical Society will be awarding historic plaque No. 14 to the Prescott Whit- temore House at 13520 Marengo Road, near Hun tley. This 1841 Grafton Town ship landmark stone home, now owned by the Delwin Borhart family, was built by Prescott Whittemore for his family of 13. They came to this county in 1839 and built a log cabin just west of the homestead. The McHenry County Historical Society has a picture of this first log cabin on exhibit at the museum in Union. The Whittemore family became prominent in the area and the home was used as a hotel for about 10 years before the village of Huntley was laid out in 1851. Ac cording to historical records, the Wnittemores held the first religious ceremony in Grafton Township and Prescott Whittemore was responsible for naming the township after Grafton, New Hampshire. The public is invited to attend the »y information about this grand old home, the Whittemore family or others who owned the property are asked to bring that information or items to share for the oc casion. The Borhart family is especially interested in learning where the stone for building the home came from and in shedding light on some of the old stories that surround this historic structure. / Following the ceremony, the house will be open for viewing and refreshments served.
