Add chopped fresh vegetables to a can of beef broth along with cans of creamed corn and tomato sauce. An envelope of spaghetti sauce mix lends a mellow Italian accent' the kids will love. Then for extra fun, add alphabet macaroni and see who can spell their favorite character's name first. For dessert, a frosted sheet cake can be quickly decorated with card board figures of their favorite characters. Serve mugs of chilled apple cider or hot chocolate to com plete the meal. Slice loaf of bread lengthwise and spread bottom half with part of mustard mixture. , Arrange cold cuts, cheese, tomatoes, pepper slices and leaf let tuce on bottom half of bread loaf and spread with remaining mustard mixture. Place top half of bread loaf on sandwich filling and secure with long food picks. Slice crosswise into 8 to 10 individual servings. Simmer, covered, 15 minutes. Add zucchini and macaroni; cover and simmer 20 minutes longer, stirr ing occasionally. Makes 8 servings. Made with canned pumpkin, these cookies are right in season for a safe and happy Halloween celebration. THE GREAT PUMPKIN COOKIE 4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour 2 cups quick or old fashioned oats, uncooked itsp- baking soda tsp. ground cinnamon tsp. salt lft cups butter or margarine, soften ed 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup granualted sugar legg 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 can (16 oz.) solid pack pumpkin 1 cup raisins Assorted candies, raisins or nuts Assorted icing or peanut butter Preheat oven to 350'F. Combine flour, oats, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; set aside. Cream butter; gradually add sugars, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Alternate additions of the dry in gredients and pumpkin, mixing well after each addition. Stir in raisins. • 1 I For each cookie, drop V4 cup dough onto lightly greased cookie sheet; spread into pumpkin shape using a thin metal spatula or knife. Add a bit more dough to form stem. Bake at 350*F. 20-25 minutes, until cookies are firm and lightly brown ed. Remove from the cookie sheets; cool on racks. When cool, decorate cookies using icing or peanut butter to affix assorted candles, raisins or nuts. Makes approximately 32 large cookies. Variation: Substitute 1 cup real semi-sweet chocolate morsels for raisins. Note:,Dough may be froten tor later use. Place unused dough in an airtight container in freezer. Thaw in refrigerator; bake as directed. Giant pumpkin cookies are so delicious you will probably get re quests for repeats -- so bake them ahead for after school snacks or as treats in lunchboxes to put some Halloween fun into ordinary days. Youngsters of all ages enjoy the traditional games of Halloween, too. Decorating giant cookies with funny faces, bobbing for apples, telling for tunes and relating ghost stories are Just a few ideas that may set the theme. NO-BAKE WALNUT BALLS 1 pkg. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces 1 pkg. (6 oz.) butterscotch pieces K cup sifted confectioner's sugar ft cup dairy sour cream 1 tsp. grated orange rind tsp. salt 1% cups crushed chow mein noodles Coarsely crushed chow mein noodles or chopped walnuts Melt chocolate and butterscotch pieces together over hot water; remove from heat.
