Childhood associations of flavors, sights, smells and tastes of traditional holiday fare subtly shape the way the adult of tomorrow makes his or her food choices. Childhood associations can cause adults to accept or reject many foods. The in fluence of these memories is very subtle. This is a prime opportunity for those with young children or young relatives and friends to share pleasant times and con structive nutrition information with these little ones as they develop their understanding of holiday foods and traditions. The diversity of ethnic backgrounds and religious traditions at the holiday provide fertile ground for teaching young children that certain foods are indicative of certain holidays, like turkey and( cranberries at Thanksgiving or special foods for different Christmas celebrations. This can spark an interest in the subject of food and an op portunity to talk about which foods are good for their bones, teeth and growth. Try to em phasize good nutrition in choosing holiday foods. Too much candy can cause a variety of problems. Youngsters' food choices do make a difference, so take a little extra time with them during the holiday season. It is important that young children learn good habits, along with holiday traditions. Also, include children in the preparation of a food item; this may kindle an interest in food and nutrition later on. Cooking, baking or combining leftovers to make a casserole can elevate a child's self-image and make the child feel a part of* the holiday celebration. This will help them remember the "special family times" for many years to come. Happy Birthday Wedding Policy The McHenry Plaindealer Herald will print weddings In their entirety up to one month after the ceremony. However we know many couples do not receive their wedding photos within one month after the ceremony. The bride may bring in a completed wedding write-up, without the photo. It will be dated and held until a photo becomes available. In this way, the newlyweds do not have to depend on a photographer to determine the length of their wedding write-up that is published in the newspaper. From one to two months after the occasion, all gown descriptions and recep tions assistants' names will be omitted. After two months, weddings will be shortened to names, date, site attendants and officiating person at the ceremony, parents' names, couple s education and where they will reside. This Information will be printed without photo. Once submitted within these deadlines, we take responsibility for publication. The most efficient means of handling the information is to pick up a wedding form at the McHenry Plaindealer Herald office. Flowers and gown descriptions can then be inserted as preparations are completed. Forms should be typed or printed legibly. Couples may also write their own ac counts •using the Information we seek, subject to editing for style. The McHenry Plaindealer Herald will only accept responsibility for black and white photos. However we will accept color photos which are sharply focused and where the couple stand out from the background. We encourage couples to pick up their photos as soon as they are published in the newspaper, or provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope for their return. EMMA ROSILIA YOUR THE GREATEST!
