Crystal Lake Rd., McHenry, ni. 60050. • • Special courses to Help new students at college F ormer grad chairs UF department Dr. Donald Antonson, a 1963 graduate of McHenry High School and former student at McHenry grade schools, has been named chairnian of the Department of Operative Dentistry at the University of Florida. A graduate of Loyola University dental school in Chicago, Antonson has been withthe dental faculty at the University of Florida for nine years. Antonson is the 1984 Teacher of the Year in the college and is one of two faculty selected by the 1984 gri class for the Outstanding Clinical Professor Award. His work in developing im proved dental teaching methods has also won him several awards. Who's Who... Two local college students were, recently named to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. McHenry residents, Randal J. Wakitsch and Laura Joan Schoolcraft were named to the prestigious list as the result of their service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. Wakitsch is a student at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and Schoolcraft matriculates at Rockford College. Advanced classes in engineering offered Jan. 17 Eight advanced engineering courses are being offered in Rockford by the University of Illinois beginning Jan. 17. Both undergraduate and graduate level courses will be offered through the Office for Advanced Engineering Studies, which is located at the Unversity of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, 1601 Parkview Avenue. Course content and work requirements are the same as for courses offered on the Champaign-Urbana campus and are taught by faculty from that campus. At a formal school assembly, Nancy Parsley, President of the Society, introduced the speaker for the occasion,/ Illinois State Representative, Richard Klemm, who spoke to the group about the origin of the National Honor Society. Klemm pointed out the significance of leader ship, scholarship, character, and service, the qualities of members chosen to the organization to make a better world for today and the future. After Klemm's speech, Honor Society officers, Ellen Oreon, Rachel Gibbons, Michelle Hauck and Nancy Parsley, outlined the meaning of those qualities and how one becomes qualified as a member. . The second portion of the assembly was devoted to the induction of new members. - Present members introduced the new members verbally sketching the many and varied activities ̂ and commitments carried out by these students in order to qualify them for the society. Mr. Thomas Landers, Principal, distributed the Society certificates and the students recited the oath of the National Honor Society.
