And while she had not immediately identified herself. It was soon established that she was yet another secret- 6t her mother's tumultuous past. For this woman, later discov­ ered to be Amanda Bedford, had entered the Carrington household as mysteriously as her brother Adam (Gordon Thomson) had some time before. Catherine Oxenberg, who plays Amanda, one of the newest members of the Carrington family on "Dynasty" (Wednesdays on ABC), hopes that her character's actions do not reflect on her otf-screen personality,-"! am very shy. I still am, yet I'm not sure if Amanda js"supposed to be nasty or nice. It's such a difficult and humble experi­ ence. I would never do the things she does, say things like she does. But you become a tool of the writers. The more I get to know my character, the more I can put my foot down." It was the late actor Richard Burton who steered Miss Oxenberg toward acting. "Richard Burton was such a fas­ cinating man. he was absolutely marvelous to me. and I loved him very much. He taught me Shakespeare." While she established herself as one of the world's top models, the actress is now forging a name for herself in show busi­ ness. "Modeling was a wonderful vehicle to achieve my independence but it was not as fulfilling as acting has been for me." She made her television debut in 1982. playing Lady Diana Spencer, the English rose who stole the heart of the heir to the British throne, in the movie "The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana." She was soon cast for her role as Amanda after meeting with producer Aaron SpeUing and reading for the pilots of "Velvet" and "Glitter." "I was so overwhelmed that anyone wanted to hire me. They hired me from my videotape." Although Miss Oxenberg is starring on one of TVs hot­ test series, she says: "My greatest accomplishment is just seeing myself progress on a daily basis. I'm very much a person of today I always have dreams." And while she's content with her current role, it offers her a good opportunity for exposure. "As for my future plans, too much is going on in-the immediate time, so it's too hard to tell. I want to be a good, acclaimed actress. I have thought about what this will branch off to.
