SECTION 2 - PAGE 6 - PLAIINDEALER-HER ALD, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20.19»5 Church Discuss dangers of drunk driving Set Mass and anointing of sick On Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, a Mass and Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated. The Bible says, "Is there anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and pray over them and pour oil upon them, calling upon Ihe Lord to heal them." (St. James Chapter 5). The purpose of the Sacrament of Anointing is a visible sign that the church sympathizes with and cares for a person who is acutely or chronically ill or is just slowing down physically from old age. Any Catholic who is seriously ill at the time, chronically ill, has rheumatism, arthritis, is handicapped, has a heart condition, high blood pressure, etc. may receive the sacrament. At this anointing ceremony the Rev. John C. Holdren, pastor, will administer the sacrament, which gives spiritual strength to those who are anointed through the grace given by the suffering Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The reverend says, "At times, people have also physically recovered or have gotten better after having been anointed. In any case, it is a beautiful sign of God's love for us through the church." A person of any age can receive this sacrament. Senior citizens are particularly en couraged to come, in order to ask of God patience with themselves and others as they feel their bodies growing weaker or slower. All are invited to attend the Mass and Anointing Ceremony. Prepare for building addition Faith Presbyterian Church, located at Lincoln and Chapel Hill roads in McHenry, is in the final stages of preparing for a building addition. The addition as planned will provide for expansion of the existing sanc tuary, restructuring other existing space, addition of an education wing, and provisions for a wing for a fellowship hall. It was recently announced by the pastor, Dr. Eric Snyder, that another milestone had been reached in the fundraising. Mary Martha Circle presented him a check for $4,000, and that check brought the total to $10,000 donated by the circle. To date, the church has cash on hand of $90,000 toward the facility ex pansion. A goal of $100,000 has been set to have on hand by ground breaking. Dr. James Mowery, chairman of the Church Building com mittee, advised that an official ground breaking will take place at the church ftferch 31. On that date, a special service will be Pre-register now for fall semester at Joyful Nois^ held at four in the afternoon. The McHenry community is always welcome to come and participate in the life of this active and youthful congregation. A Youth Club for grades one-three meets at 4 p.m. Thursdays; grades four-six, 4 p.m. Wednesdays; and grades seven-nine, at 4:45 p.m. Wed nesdays. The senior high group meets Sunday evenings. Fri. 10-9, Sat. 10-5:30, Sun. 11-5 (312)426-9100 Before teenagers are given permission to use the family car on a Friday or Saturday evening, their parents should discuss with them the dangers of drinking and driving, advises the McHenry County Com prehensive Alcohol Safety Project. "Talk with your youngsters, but don't lecture them" Sgt. George Corson advises. "The essential element is good communications based on sympathetic understanding of the special problems of adolescence." Parents can find out what their youngsters think about drinking and driving. Discuss the laws governing drunk driving in Illinois. Children who are going out with a friend, should be asked what they'd do if the friend had too much to drink and wanted to drive. Another approach is ex plaining the designated driver program, Sgt. Corson said. In the program, one person, the designated driver, remains sober all evening and is responsible for seeing that everyone gets home safely. This approach may appeal to your youngsters because it shows respect for their maturity and sense of responsibility. Above all, advises the Safety Project, make sure a teenager knows that his or her safety is more important than getting the car home, and that no con ceivable circumstances could ever justify driving after any amount of drinking.
