Guard Tom Walsh had knee surgery in the pre-season. By the time he returned, reserve guard Mike Toussaint had broken his arm, putting him out of action. Sprinkled among those 'two mishaps, forward-center Mark DuRei missed a couple games with illnesses, and junior forward Rick Easterling sat out a few con tests with an ankle problem. A few courses in preventive medicine may have aided Beck this season. One player who has been a steady and guiding hand above the team all year is senior guard Jeff Nichols, who leads the squad in scoring at 13.5 points per game. "We knew he'd have to be our offensive mainstay," Beck said. "And he has been. He's our main JOHNSBURG -- Ben Beck and his boys' basketball team at Johnsburg High School entered the 1984185 season with numerous question marks. At the season's onset, Beck said he didn't know where the Skyhawks would finish, but he hoped it would be in the middle of the pack. His greatest fears, were, however , rea l ized , as the Skyhawks finished in the cellar of the Northwest Suburban Con ference- Breaking extensive los ing streaks was the major ac complishment for Johnsburg in the past campaign. But thanks to the benevolent folks at the Illinois High School Association, Beck and his squad "Like I told the kids, in the regionals, everybody's got a 0-0 record, and the scoreboard says 0-0. We're very excited.
