Trade Fair Supplement -- Feb. 27, IMS -- Peg* • Cleanup crew will begin its real work after the Trade Fair crowds are gone One of the aspects of any event that is less-than-cherished is clean-up. After all of the fun and excitement is a memory, someone has to put it back together. This very special and difficult tasks has been ably handled for the past two years by David Gelwicks. This year, his two assistants are John Lescher, of Conies Com munications and Ann Zeller, of ,»oyal Welcome. Clean-up is no pew task for Zeller who always sees Trade Fair from the very beginning of set-up to the last sweep at the end. Gelwicks, owner of Essex-Costello Realty in McHenry, has also ar ranged for a crew of workers from Pitt Water Care to help with the chores. Gelwicks has been on the board of directors for the past two years and has been the chairman of the annual Golf Day for the same number of years. He is also a member of "the Economic Development Commission and serves as vice-chairman. He is currently secretary to the McHenry County Board of Realtors and is their incoming president. He is also a member of the Chamber's education committee, which is chaired by Norb Wolter, of Dist. 156. John Lescher has been in business in McHenry for the past 17 years and a member of the Chamber for the last six. He is a frequent contributor to staffing booths for Fiesta Days and is always willing to help. Lescher has been an exhibitor at McHenry's Trade Fair for several years. As you visit the Chamber booth, you'll notice Ta^ac sh's efforts in preparing th„ exterior and countertop of the display, along with keeping a full supply of brochures, maps and booklets. The recently-published map of the greater McHenry area is among the many helpful pieces of printed material available. The new four-color brochure of McHenry and varidfll road guides can be ordered at a special Trade Fair price. A practicing attorney in McHenry for the past five years, Taradash is also a member of the McHenry Kiwanis Club. As coordinator for the profes sional council, 1985 presents many challenges for Taradash. He is responsible for the events and direction of that segment of the Chamber, which includes 106 pro fessional and financial businesses. The public address system that so efficiently services the McHenry Area Trade Fair is not a built-in facility at Parkland School. It is a system that was designed, built and installed by Bill and Carol Nelson, of Nelson Elec tronics, and their professional staff. Through the use of one system going to all areas of the Trade Fair, all visitors and exhibitors can receive the same information at the same time, whether it is in structions, directions, or as is most frequent, the announcement of a prize winner. D r a w i n g s w i l l b e h e l d throughout the time of Trade Fair and exhibitors are encouraged to send the information to the an nouncement center so that all may REGISTER TO WINI HOMELITE 24S 16" CHAINSAW •309.95 Value Pitt's man in charge as booths are being set up share in the excitement of the giveaways. Carol Nelson retired recently from the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors where she served as retail council coordinator for three years and board member for two-and-a-half years. At the time of her retire ment, she was the vice president of the board in charge of the coun cils. It was under her guidance that the retail council grew and developed far beyond the position it had when she assumed the of fice. Under Nelson's auspices, the M c H e n r y C h a m b e r C h e c k Cashing System and Call Tree w e r e d e v e l o p e d a n d m a n y e n r i c h i n g s e m i n a r s w e r e presented to the retail communi ty. Set-up Chairman for Trade Fair 1985 is Jim Pitt, of J&L Pools and Pitt's Water Care. But that is only one of Pitt's many contributions to the Trade Fair this year, and for many years in the past. In the approaching weeks of Trade Fair, Pitt and his staff made it a point to post the bright yellow posters in the area around McHenry, along their regular routes while delivering salt for water softeners and supplies for pools. In the advance promotion for Trade Fair, Pitt was one of the most enthusiastic guests on the Chamber's radio and television shows. Pitt also makes available his trucks and staff for hauling the Chamber's display unit as well as the multitude of supplies needed for the Chamber booth and for the exhibitors in general. During the exhibitor set-up day on Friday, March 1, Pitt never passes the information center without offering his assistance for whatever task that might be in need of attention. This year, Pitt has arranged for a crew of young men who will han dle the furniture moving at Parkland School to make room for the exhibits and then return the school to its original configuration at the end. The crew's work begins long before the exhibitors arrive and extends long after the ex hibitors have all left. The crew consists of Todd Green, Scott Hughes and Sam Jobst. In addition to the set-up and sun dry assistance provided by Pitt and his staff, this year he has also v o l u n t e e r e d t o a s s i s t J o h n Huemann in the electrical depart ment of the Trade Fair. Pitt has arranged for the supplies and the specialization of talent required to create new electrical harnesses for the fair. Pitt's involvement in Trade Fair planning and preparations is a natural outflow of five years of exhibiting in McHenry's fair. He will be co-chairman of the 1986 Trade Fair, along with Bobbie Wiltse of Pioneer Center. 1985 will be an exciting growth year for Pitt's company. They will be expanding into a new facility east of town on Route 120 and in stalling a computerized system for their operation. His wife, Liz, is president of J&L Pools, which began in 1974 as a part-time venture while Pitt was otherwise employed. Pitt's Water Care was born in 1978 and now serves an area in a 50-mile radius of McHenry. lie Pitt COME TO THE TRADE E D'S RENTAL & SALES, 1 IN C. I 904 FRONT ST.. McHENRY {(815) 385-3232 HOURS.
