P«te 14 - PLAINDEALER-HERALD, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3,1985 Church Shepherd of the Hills observes Holy Week Rosemary Schneider, is pictured working on the Seder Meal and Holy Week services. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green St., McHenry, will start Holy Week by traveling back to the first Passover Supper or Seder Meal with Jesus and His disciples. The Passover Supper will be held Maundy Thursday at 6:15 p.m. with members of the group sharing scripture readings and special music provided by Judy Zid and Helen Hankins. The menu will be lamb; symbol of the sacrificial lamb which was killed to bring redemption from slavery, Matzo bread, symbol of haste in which the Israelites left and parsley, symbol of the coming spring and the perpetual renewal of life. Meal chairmen are Irene Tice and Marie Beste, Program chairm&n is Rosemary Schneider. At 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thur sday, a service of Holy Com munion will be held. The senior choir, directed by Rosemary Schneider and accompanied by Sally Manktelow, will sing. Pastor Roger Schneider will preach on the theme, "Jesus Gives Us a Lesson in Humility." On Good Friday, a tenebrae service or service of shadows will be held at 7:30 p.m. The senior choir will sing the Can tata "Darkness" by McCluskey. Yvonne Alton will portray Mary the mother of Jesus at the foot of the cross. Readers for the service will be Mark Glass, Sandra Anderson, Tom Sproull, Anne O'Donnell, Erv Staveteig, and Scott Campbell. This is a unique service as the candles are dimmed as the congregation travels to the cross and Jesus' death. On Easter Sunday, the tomb is open and everyone shares the joy with the disciples. Services of Holy Communion will be held at 7, 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. Pastor Schneider will speak on the theme, "Death Has Been Conquered!" The senior choir, directed by Mrs. Schneider, handbell choir, directed by Dawn LaBuy, and trumpeter, Brian Anderson, will present special music for all worship services. The Junior and Senior Luther Leagues will serve a breakfast for the congregation after all four worship services. First communion to be given Maundy Thursday The Maundy Thursday service to be held at Faith Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. April 4, will feature 16 young people receiving their first communion. These include Erin Forbes, Kelly Sutton, Annie Larson, Kristen Heffelfinger, Jenny Black, John Finch, Kim Mowery, Lisa DeVries, Meghan Kucik, Jessica Gardner, Keni Koreba, Jenny Spencer, Missy and Chris Goodson, Kim Mid- dleton and Melissa Shoopman.
