R.I. Overton, N.P. Justen, Herman J. Kreutzer, Edward J. Buss, Fred Ferwerda and George P. Freund were sworn in separately to take over their new or continuing duties. The stars of the outgoing aldermen were turned in after they had been praised by Mayor Peter J. Doherty for their service to the city. Seventy-six persons from McHenry county towns and northern Illinois took part in the McHenry County Women's Association of Rock River Conference held at the McHenry wice TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 21, 1960) A McHenry high school junior, William "Bill" Hintze, lost his life in a tragic accident last' Thursday morning. The 16-yeaiv old youth had been working for about two hours on his car in the driveway of the family home at Griswold Lake. A snort time after 10 a.m., an older brother, Robert, discovered the jack had slipped and Bill was crushed beneath the car. He died at McHenry hospital shortly after the accident. Committees raising funds for a community swimming pool were enlarged to interest more people in the project. Harley Mackeben wa^ reappointed chairman of the county board of supervisors Tuesday. The Junior Police will meet on April 26 at which time a movie, "Piranha Fishing," will be shown. The Fiesta Day committee met recently and elected Frank Low and Ernie Useman co- chairmen of the 1960 event. James Larkin was named treasurer and Mrs. his car were uninii cording to sheriff's deputies, the deceased's car was north-bound on Route 31 when it crossed the center line and hit one vehicle head on in the south-bound lane. The McHenry-owned vehicle was following behind the south bound car when the collision occurecK He was unable to avoid hitting the rear of the second car. Gary A. Hosier, a senior from McHenry, Monday, April 21, was named the recipient of the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete Award at Northern Illinois University. Arnold J. Rauen, McHenry, president of the Bank for Savings and Loan associations, has been appointed chairman of the public affairs committee of the Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago. Dave Wickenkamp, Warrior pitcher, tossed a 3-hitter against the strong Barrington team, striking out seven while giving up three walks. The day's celebration was climaxed with a charivari in the evening staged by old neighbors of the couple, not to be outdone by the younger generation. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 26, 1945) An Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, -Second Lieutenant Raymond T. Albright, 27, of West McHenry, who includes two bombing attacks on targets at Berlin in more than a dozen missions over the Reich, recently won the Air Medal in recognition of "exceptionally meritorious achievement" while flying as co-pilot of the B-17 Flying Fortress, "Miss Kitty." He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Albright, Chicago, and his wife, Mrs. Evelyn M. Albright, lives in West McHenry. "So I Hear" reported we are happy to hear that Herb Reinansberger is recovering from a serious illness out in Fort Lewis, Washington. From here mi we figure each Cub victory will do more for Herb than any medicine the doctors can offer." Also, "Bill Pries sent his wife, Pauline, a south sea island costume. She's saving it for a Walter Frank Gregory and Chuck Peterson will be co-chairmen of publicity. Mike Creighton won the high and low hurdles and cleared six feet in the high jump to lead McHenry to an 88-29 victory over Dundee's track team. Other individual winners for McHenry were Ron Freund in the 220 yard dash, Jay Walkington in the 880 yard run, Roger Swanson in the discus, Biff Wright in the short put, Larry Bruce in the pole vault, and Ron Thomas won his third straight mile in 5:01.1. Handicapped individuals to compete in track, field meet The Woodstock Jaycees, in conjunction with the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA), will sponsor a track and field meet for handicapped children and adults. The event will take place Saturday, April 27 at the Woodstock High School athletic field. Competition, which begins at 9 a.m., will be held in three events. The events are softball throw, 50-yard dash and the 100- yard-dash. Ribbons will be awarded to first, second and third-place winners of each age division in each event. The meet is scheduled to end at noon, with lunch being served immediately following the contest. Admission to the meet is free. All participants must have an application form signed by a parent or guardian and the form returned to the participant's school, workshop or to NISRA at. 10 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, 111., 60014. Registration for late ap plicants may be made at 8:30 a.m. at the meet. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 26, 1975) A Mount Prospect youth was killed, eight other youths were hurt and three escaped imury in a three-vehicle accident Sunday morning about 1:25 on Route 31 at the Nippersink bridge, about a mile south of Richmond.
