SPECIAL GIFTS Gloria Cassell, who had spent many years in Lakemoor while the Cassell children were growing up, returned to the McHenry Nunda Library last Saturday to donate beautiful book of poetry. During the presentation, Gloria read a poem of hers that is in this large volume, and with the visual aid daughter Dawn's' birthdaj Sherry Jones starts off the birthday list with hers on May Day. Helen Para celebrates her birth on May 2, Helen and husband Walter visited the McHenry Nunda Library last Saturday and enjoyed hearing Anna Brzezinski, Walter's sister, speak of the many in­ teresting places she had visited via bus tours. Anniversary time for Michael and Lorene Martin is April 26, when 33 years of marriage will be celebrated. Especially remembered on May. 1 is dear friend of many years Otto Witzke, who would have been 84. Memories of many a song and dance warm our hearts. GUESS WHAT? . Four days after Wayne Meyer returned to work after the healing of a broken rib, he was taken to the Crystal Lake Ambutal, and later admitted to Sherman Hospital for surgery, the result of having his foot crushed by a fork lift. Wayne will be released from the hospital when he can manage th with a walker, and then on to crutches. A two-month recuperation period is an­ ticipated. It has been a worrisome time for his wife Laura. She works six days a, week, and traveling daily to Elgin is difficult, even when accompanied by daughter Connie. The hair cuts and in­ formation given by Jackie and Adeline Pedersen; sweet memories raised by Joe Yerkes and his concertina; make-up demonstration by Pat Gattone; scouting activities exemplified by Brownie Troops 423, 461 and 465, and Junior Troops 320 and 410, and the Explorer Post 230 with fire-safety measures; gardening principles learned from Bruce Spangenberg; Crime Stoppers program by Jim Mentzer; East Campus "Snowballers" with their program of self-worth and fun; poetry reading by Louise Hip- well; Friends of the McHenry Nunda Library's puppet show with Vickie Delp. and Lorry Deeke and kite making assisted by other Friends; 13 baby rabbits brought by Juan Carrion and fondled by some 40 youngsters; aerobics by Pam Messman and Tracy Hueckstaedt; the Lakemoor presentation, including the gift of "The History of Lakemoor" by President Pat Morrison and Carol Schmidt; wood carved bird displays by Ray Embrey, and artists Vola Johnson and Mary Schlechta actually painting. The effort extended by all these people and others, is an for writing this paticular poem. Gloria has written poetry for many years and nas been published in other books. Particularly happy to visit with her was Pat Morrison, who with husband Norman are the god­ parents of the Cassell's youngest daughter, Julie. Not only were old friendships renewed, but unknown talents were shared. SPECIAL DAYS April 27 finds William Sinkler of Lakemoor another year older but wiser. Brenda Hall, also of Lakemoor, adds a teen year on the 28th.
