The workshops will be held on three consecutive Thursdays, May 16, May 23 and May 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the student lounge at McHenry County College. Janet Pefcce, a published writer and poet will conduct the sessions. Ms. Pence, who has ixtensive research on creativity, presents the workshop to benefit writer, artist, businessmen and women or anyone interested in developing his or her creativity to its fullest potential. The registration fee is $3 per person. Due to limited enrollment, * pre-registration is encouraged. Those interested in attending any or all three sessions, should contact Janet Pence at (815) 459-3496. 4 Crime Stoppers conference The Mid-American Crime Stoppers Conference planning committee holds its final meeting prior to the two-day conference at McHenry County College May 22 and 23. McHenry County's com munity Crime Stopper organizations are hosting the event. Fran Olson, McHenry, co-chairman of the conference (top row far right), chaired the session. About 100 people from seven states are expected to attend. Canoeing, camping trips being sponsored by MCC Plan a day out this summer. Join one of the excursions planned by the Community Education Department of McHenry County College. A variety of options are listed in the Summer Schedule, recently mailed to area residents. Two canoe trips are scheduled. One is on Friday, May 17 and is designed for people age 55 and over. The other is Sunday , June 9. All ages are welcome. The trips well be on the Fox River, leaving from Hickory Nut Grove, Cary, and traveling into a nature area where geese, ducks, herons and other wildlife abound. It is reputed to be one of the prettiest areas in the county. >>The trip to Circus World is already .filled, but there are other fehoje$s. A day-long trip to Spring Green, Wis., is planned for Saturday, June 29. Tour the House on the Rock, Frank Lloyd Wright's birthplace including his hillside school of ar chitecture, Taliesen East, and his grave site; and the annual Spring Green Arts and Crafts Fair. Tour old world Milwaukee on Saturday, July 20. Visit the Pabst Brewery, historic churches and other notable buildings and shops. Two three-day trips are being offered in conjuction with the Woodstock Recreation Department. One is a three-day paddling trip over a section of Kickapoo River north of Madison, Wis. The river is spring fed and in the unglaciated section of Wisconsin the topography is rolling, and there are sections of deep river bluffs. Nights will be spent in tents, with meals cooked over camp- fires, camp stories and singing. The trip is for all ages 12 and up. Those 12 to 16 must be ac companied by a parent or guardian. A three-day climbing ex cursion to Devil's Lake, Wis.,is planned for those in grades seven to 10. The leaders will be Alex Roberts, of the Woodstock Recreation Department, and Rob Rubendall. Both are ex perienced climbers and trip leaders. Participants need no ex perience and will be taught how to climb, rope handling, knot tying, commands, rope system harnesses, belaying techniques and methods of ascension. Nights will be spent in tents and meals cooked over a campfire, with climbing stories and songs. Everyone will have respon sibilities and, as in the canoeing trip, the group will experience will always be emphasized.
