ComEd announces higher summer rates Commonwealth Edison recently announced to its residential customers that higher summertime electricity rates will go into effect between May 15 and June 15. In 1979, the Illinois Commerce Commission directed Edison to create a two-tier rate structure for the summer and non- summer months. For the average customer, the total annual cost of this two-part design should be about the same as under a year-round system. For the eig^ non-summer months, rates ate lower than they would if a year-round rate were in effect. These lower non- summer rates should offset the summer rates for the average 'user. > Present residential rates are 10.561 cents per kilowatthour during the summer months and 7.282 cents per kwh during the eight non-summer months, for the first 400 kwhs of use, (4.32 cents for kwh over 400) plus or minus the fuel adjustment charge. A customer can determine the approximate fcginning of his or her summer rate period by looking at the time covered by the May bill. If the period ends May 15 or later, that ending date will mark the start of the first month of the summer rate billing., For example, if the ending date is May 25, the bills for the periods ending on or about June 25, July 25, August 25 and September 25 will be billed at the summer rate. Edison's cost rise because of the extensive use of electricity during the summer, in large part due to heat relief devices. Increased demand on the utility's system requires the installation of additional generating capacity. « ; - Ports of Sullivan tours begin • The Ports of Sullivan Lake, an RV resort located on Sullivan 'Road, across from the Volo Bog Mature Preserve, recenltly opened for customer tours. \ The resort, a dream tjf area 'resident and civil engineer jRichard Schaff, is designed for year round use and private {ownership.
