* ^ JL New rules to bring more excitement to bed races Page 3 - PLAIiNDEALER-HERALD. WEDNESDAY. MAY 15.1985 No dressing and a lot of fun! That's the keynote for the Fourth Annual Bed Race for Muscular Dystrophy. The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce-MDA Bed Race will be held Friday evening, July 26, in conjuction with Fiesta Days. The race will take place in Peterson Park in McHenry. This years's Bed Race is going to be a little different. First, there will be no "Best Dressed Bed" contest. Secondly, MDA will provide two beds, which will be used for the entire race. A few things have been added to the race instead. To explain the differences from previous bed races, at the starting line, the rider must get into pajamas while the four runners make the bed (pajamas and all bedding supplied). When the rid^rjfe in bed and under the covers, the runners will push the bed to the first stop. There, the rider will kneel at the foot of the bed and drop a clothespin into a bottle. He will have three chances. As soon as he gets one clothespin into the bottle, he then gets back into bed and goes to stop two. If he fails to get any clothespins intojthe bottle, the team WiJU receive a two-second penalty. Several other (stops are scheduled during )the race, where participants will be directed to do a series of antics, such as: the rider will blow up a balloon, run once around the bed with the balloon between his knees, and then put the galloon on a chair and sit on it until the balloon pops. The rider will then get back into bed and continiu At the finish line, the rider will get out of the pajamas and the runners must strip the bed. All bedding and pajamas must be folded and placed on the bed and all five team members will then sit down on the ground. When all the members are seated, the time will stop. All rewards will be handed out immediately following the race, and trophies will be awarded for the following categories: The FastestBedan^ieMos^cjie^ Raised. Trophies will be awarded to both sponsors and the individuals on the team. Ribbons for sponsors and team members placing second and third will be awarded in the same categories. Any team bringing in a minimum of $200 in donation (not including the $25 entry fee) will receive a MDA Bed Race T* shirt for each member. The T- shirt will be ordered following the race and will be delivered to each team captain as soon as they are ready. The individual raising the most money will receive a plaque from MDA. The new race rules involve far less investment of cash; time and- energy in the pre- Crime of the Week This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on an at tempted burglary to a building on the McHenry Country Club grounds. On Sunday morning, May 5, employees of the McHenry Country Club discovered an attempted burglary to the half way house concession stand located on the golf course, just south of Golf View Road. Sometime during the night, burglars tried to gain entry to the building, causing extensive damage. It appears the first attempt was made at the kitchen door. When entry could not be gained, the burglars turned their attention elsewhere, damaging other areas of the building. Included in the damage were screens, the concession counter, and another door. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for in formation leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders. If you have any information about tins at tempted burglary at the McHenry Country Club, or in formation on any other crimes, call Crime Stoppers at (815) 459- jl800. All ' callers remain anonymous-one never needs to give a name. Crime Stoppers, which is sponsored by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, assigns secret numbers to anonymous callers who provide in formation. Callers are in structed to call back at regular intervals to find out if any suspects have been arrested as a result of confidential in formation given. If there are arrests, the Crime Stoppers board of directors then meets to determine an ap propriate reward. A secret meeting is arranged to make the cash reward payments. Anonymous callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to appear in court. LOCATED IN THE McHENRY TRADE CENTER 1402C.
