But most ol them -- Morgan Fairchild. John James, Susan Sullivan and Ted Shackelford, for instance -- seem to have gone from daytime soaps to nighttime soaps Judith Light who plays Angela Bowers on "Who's the Bosp?," made the switch into a different medium -- comedy. Then again. Miss Light, who won two Daytime Emmys for her role a& Karen Wolek in "One Life to Live," was never your typical daytime soap-opera star Born and raised in Trenton. N J. she enrolled In the prestigious acting program at Carnegie-Mellon University and expected to have a solely theatrical career "I never wanted to do a soap." Miss Light admits candidly. Stocky and mature-looking for her age ("Okay. I was fat," she insists). she v.-as an unlikely casting choice tor the role of Karen, which had previously been played by a svelte, vacuous blonde actress.Yet as Miss Light enacted the trials and tribulations of the housewife/hooker, her straight-from-the-guts style and emotional honesty quickly made her a ton female soap star Alter five years on "One Lite lo Live." she made the ch;«nc= a? many New York-based actors do. to leave soaps and go to California She says it was the hardest •incision of Ker lite "I had a very secure lob'that I loved, an .nof-Jibie character a fabulous boyt'.end ('One Life to I ive c-'-st.v Robot• Desiderio), who's now mv husband, an apartment, my friends and family, and of course my 'an at One Life to live But l ••had saved'my money,-' ant: i Miew my ftiends would always be there so I weni." The song is a powerful reminder of an obvious problem, but the video, which should pack a real wallop, bears a bit too much resemblance to a public-service commercial. Wrestling and song George Thorogood and the Destroyers' "Willy and the Hand Jive" inter- splices cheaply shot biack- and-white concert footage with wrestling footage -- with the intention of point ing out the similarities between wrestling and music. The wrestler fights it out with his opponent, you see. while the performer fights it out with the audience. Well, maybe it worki for you, George. Tunes on your TV The big news this week is the 17-hour Live Aid con cert this Saturday. July 13. from Philadelphia and London.
