War on Waste waged at showcase The Woodstock Area Recyclers made plans for their booth at the Business Showcase '85 at their quarterly meeting July 23 at the City Hall. The Woodstock Business Community has supported the Woodstock Area recyclers program since it started in March 1962. Many businesses advertised in the Special In sert on recycling, which was put out by the Woodstock Sentinel to inaugurate the Recycling Program. Woodstock Area Recyclers participating in the Business Showcase *85 is one way of showing appreciation for community support of recycling. Another way is the annual Thank You Ad placed in the Sentinel on each Recycling Anniversary. It thanks the businesses, organizations and in dividuals whose cooperation has made our success possible. It also expresses appreciation to all cooperating groups and all the citizens who have recycled with the WAR ON WASTE. Volunteers will work at the Business Showcase '85 Booth. There will be prizes for recycling guessing games. There will be posters about recycling, how to WASTE recycling program, and the Ci ty of Woodstock Curbside Pickup of newspapers. The Woodstock Area Recyclers are proud of the success of the recycling program and are committed to increas ing the amount of recyclables saved from the local landfill. If each regular recycler could interest their.friends and neighbors who are not yet recyclers, in joining the recycling effort',' our com munity would be saving a iarger per cent of the area's recyclables. This would divert solid waste from the land fill and save our natural resources. Our Woodstock community would be doing our share in implementing the McHenry County Waste Study Advisory recommendations, which have been ap proved by the McHenry County Board. Woodstock Area Recyclers look for ward to working with the Woodstock En vironmental Council and Woodstock Ci ty Council, and with the McHenry Coun ty Board in efforts to increase recycling as a way of reducing the amount of solid waste going to the landfill from our community. Woodstock Area Recyclers support the Boy Scout's first Saturday of the month newspaper pickup ̂ Many residents have recycled their newsprint this way for years, and will continue to support the Boy Scout program in this way. Those interested in recycling this way may call 338-1688. They have equipped their trucks with bins for the newsprint. It should be bagged or tied, protected from weather, and should be carefully prepared as for the Boy scouts or Woodstock Area Recyclers.
