Page24 NORTHWEST HERALD StctlonB W«dn--day, Augu»t21,1965 Regional Clubs (Continued from page IB) When a person calls (815 ) 338-2290, an answering service takes their name and address, enabling them to receive a pre-addressed envelope, questionnaire and explanation of the service. They fill out questions pertaining to their income, education and personal preferences, and return it with a $35 check. For that money, Nelson said, the customer will receive at least 24 computer-selected names during the next year. He added that he's been able to triple or quadruple that guarantee for most clients. He also adds the $35 investment is more than what some people spend on one date, "or going out to look for people." The computer program, Nelson explained, was written to give his clients as many choices as possible. He points out one question pertaining to religion. It first asks the person's religion, then follows it up by asking how seriously they take their religion. It then asks if they want to date persons only of their religion, of other religions, or if they care at all. "It (the computer) eliminates assumptions that could be in error," Nelson said. "By doing this it gives the person more choices to let them decide who's right." Nelson answered a complaint voiced by several women clients over 30, who said they were getting called by 19 and 20-year old men -- even though they didn't specify a preference for that age group on their questionnaires. He explained that those male clients had obviously stated on their questionnaires that the age of a potential female suitor was not of importance. Nelson will be celebrating his company's success on Sept. 22 at Coleman's in Crystal Lake. All members and interested persons are invited to come and dance to a live band beginning at 2 p.m. The 33-year old McHenry resident currently, has a steady girlfriend, who he met years before he ever decided to go into the computer-dating business. Although he claims he'll never get rich off his venture, he is planning to eventually rewrite the programs and franchise the business. As for the institution of marriage, Nelson seems to possess the same outlook as the countless others who roam the singles bars, advertise in newspapers, join singles clubs, and subscribe to computer dating services. "I'd like to get married," he said, " ... if I meet the right person." Keith Nelson, owner of the McHenry County Dating Service, says the service is responsible for at least five marriages in its two years of existence. For $35, its subscribers are provided with at least 24 names in a one-year period.
