The ninth months prior to the birth of a child should be a healthy, happy time for the mother-to-be. The Eas ter Seal Society of McHenry County believes exercise plays an important role in that physical and mental preparation. "Women often stop exercising when they become pregnant," Phys ical Therapist Karen Bealfe said. "A safe, sensible exercise program is just as important during pregnancy as it is at any other time." A pre-natal therapeutic exercise program is offered by Easter Seals each Wednesday at 7 p.m. to help mothers-to-be enjoy the positive benefits of proper exercise. The Easter Seal Therapy Center is locat ed at 708 Washington in Woodstock. The exercise program is designed to build muscle strength, flexibility, endurance, good posture, and im prove breathing and relaxation techniques. "Back pain is often a complication of pregnancy. Good posture and good muscle tone are important., in preventing back pain," Beale said. "Our program includes instructions in correct lifting methods, as well'as advice on how household activities can be performed with the le£st „ amount of stress to the back." || Each participant undergoes a sam ple, comprehensive evaluation with Beale prior to beginning the exer cise program. Brief discussions dy ing rationale to each exercise activi ty and how it relates to pregnancy, labor and delivery are held through out each step of the program. Ques tions from participants a(re encouraged. Participation in the program {re quires a written prescription from a physician. To register for the pre natal exercise program, call Easter Seals at (815) 338-1707; ! •'Meet the Faculty Night' | at Marian Central tonight The Marian Central Catholic High School annual "Meet the Faculty Night" will be held to night, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
