CALL 81S-38S-0178 FOR DELIVERY One hostage released; 6 still held in Lebanon By Steve Hagey United Press International WASHINGTON - The Rev. Benjamin Weir, kidnapped and held hostage by Moslem terror ists for more than a year, has been ^released unharmed by his abductors and is safe with his family, the Presbyterian Church said Wednesday. Among the six American hos tages remaining in Lebanon is the Rev. Lawrence Martin Jenco, of Joliet, 111. Jenco was head of Catholic Relief Services in Beirut at the time of his ab duction in January, 1964. Peggy Say, sister of another American kidnapped in Beirut, Lebanon, Associated Press Bei rut bureau chief Terry Anderson, said she had spoken by telephone with Weir's son, John, on his father's release. "I talked to John and he said his father is very well and they have been in the Norfolk, Va., area all weekend," Say said from her home in Batavia, N.Y. The Weir family is feeling "just wonderful," she said. A spokesman for the 3.1 mil lion member Presbyterian Church said, "We are confirming at this point that he has been released but we have no other information." Church officials said the Weir family will hold a 11 a.m. news conference in Washington on Thursday. Say said Weir would meet with some of the relatives of other Americans missing in Beirut. The Rev. Oscar McCloud, a top denominational official who has been closely involved in efforts to free Weir, told church officials Weir had been released. McCloud is with the family. Weir, 61, last seen in a photo graph distributed by the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad May 15, is a Presbyterian minister and native of Berkeley, Calif. He was seized by Moslem gunmen near his home in mostly Moslem west Beirut May 8,1964. Say said she did not know pre cisely when or why Weir was released. Nor was there was there any word on the fate of six other Americans, four French men, a Briton and an Italian kidnapped from the streets of West Beirut from March of 1984 through September, 1965. On Capitol Hill, Sen. Paul Si mon, D-Ill., said Weir's release l is "the best reason we have had yet for hope. If one of the 'For gotten Seven' can be released, than al l of them can be released." Rep. Norm Mineta, D-Calif., said, "We must not forget that s ix Americans remain in captivity." Weir apparently was released over the weekend. On Sunday, an anonymous caller telephoned two Western news agencies and claimed that Islamic Jihad had released Weir, who had lived in the predominantly Moslem west ern half of the Lebanese capital for more than 30 years. Shiite Moslem extremists in Lebanon, believed to have ties to Iran, have been demanding the release of 17 Lebanese and Iraqis convicted in a string of bombings against United States, French and Kuwaiti targets in Kuwait in December 1963 in exchange for kidnapped westerners. Weir's wife, Carol, has led a public and private campaign aimed at freeing her husband and the other U.S. hostages and has said she believes there is a link between her husband's ab duction and the Islamic Jihad's demand for the release of terror ists being held in Kuwait for the bombings of the French and American embassies there. All the kidnapped Americans were believed to have been held in the Bekaa Valley of Eastern Lebanon in or near the extremist Shiite stronghold of Baalbeck, ancient Roman ruins. 'Trilogy' to perform at chamber function "Trilogy" will be the featured entertainment at the Annual McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce Dinner Dance, Sept.28 at the Apple Tree Restaurant in Ingleside. Judy Matrin, chairman of the Annual Dinner Dance Committee, states that "We want to give our members a memorable and totally delightful evening at this annual event. We can't think of a more popular group to offer to our members than "Trilogy"" Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber office at 385-4300 or stopping in at 1257 North Green St. r Blood drive slated Northern Illinois Medical Center will be sponsoring a blood drive through the Aurora Blood Bank Thursday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the lower level of the Professional Arts Building adjacent to NIMC. It doesn't take a long time. For some it may even be a good chance to "take a load off their feet" and relax a few minutes. The pain is small -hardly more than a pin prick. The reward up front may seem to be just a glass of orange juice for ener gy. The real reward comes later- perhaps not for the giver but for the receiver. 6 For more information call 344- 5000, extension 3909 or 3910.
