An anniversary dinner will be held at the McHenry Country Club at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. The program for the evening will be John Mosiman, an artist who paints to the rhythm of music. Entertain­ ment will be provied by "The Terrif­ ic Twelve," a triple quartet made up of some members of the Senior Choir. Sunday, Sept. 22, the congregation will celebrate the anniversary at the 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. worship ser­ vices, joining together in a prayer of rededication. Pastor Lawrence Hoist will be the guest speaker at all three services. He has been the di­ rector of the Division of Pastoral Care at Lutheran General Hospital since its inception in 1960. Pastor Hoist is an accredited Chaplain «npprvi«nr nf th*» AssnHa- tion for Clinical Pastoral Education and an accredited chaplain of the College of Chaplains of the Ameri­ can Protestant Hospital Association. He co-authored a book, wrote nu­ merous articles, is frequently a con­ sultant to hospitals seeking to estab­ lish chaplaincy .services and is chairman of The Human Values Fo­ rum at Lutheran General Hospital. A widower and father of five chil­ dren, he spent a year with his family living in Moshl, Tanzania, East Afri­ ca as part of the hospital's Poverty in Medicine Program. While in Tan­ zania be. helped establish a hospital chaplaincy program at the Kiliman­ jaro Christian Medical Center, which serves as a model for the country. He initiated the first formal program of Ginical Pastoral Educa­ tion in East Africa. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church has moved from mission sta­ tus in 1965 to become the third larg­ est parish in the Illinois District of the American Lutheran Church in 1965. The congregation now numbers 2,000 members. It has been the fast­ est growing parish in the American Lutheran Church in the past 20 years. Pastor Donald Johnson, who served the parish the first three years of its existence, will return to bring greetings to the congregation. Mayor Bill Busse will also be on hand to congratulate the parish on its programs, which have been used as models for other mission starts across the United States. The vari­ ous choirs in the parish will provide special music for all of the worship services. Members of the community are invited to join the twentieth anniver­ sary celebration, as well as all pro-. grams in the parish. The group is disbanding, primari­ ly due to heavy schedules. They ap­ preciate the support of the residents, and will use the money raised for the benefit of all Lakemoorites. HEALTH NOTES Bonnie Kawell, suffering from an earache, went to the emergency room at Northern Illinois Medical Center Sunday the 8th. Medication was given and Bonnie is much improved. Guild sponsors workshop New mothers meet The New Moms Discussion Group will meet Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. The group, which strives to help all new moms deal with their new responsibilities, is open to all new moms. It offers mothers and their babies a time and a place to come together and share the posi­ tive and negative experiences of parenting that accompany mother­ hood during the baby's first year.. It is their desire. to learn more specific information about the results of firing a salt kiln and producing saltware pieces. Salt glaze pottery has been part of the American heritage since the 1700's. In addition, they will be tapping the knowledgej>f the primitive cul­ ture of the Andean Mountains of Venezuela as it relates to pottery. The workshop will begin at 8 a.m. with loading and firing a salt kiln at the private residence of Bob Blue, 3607 Franklinville Rd., Woodstock. From 9 to noon, he will demon­ strate production methods of salt glazed pottery on the wheel at Mc­ Henry County College, Route 14 and Lucas Rd., Crystal Lake. Lunch will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. From 1:30 to 5 p.m., Willard will again demonstrate finishing and decorating techniques of saltware at MCC. Dinner will be from 5 to 7 p.m. From 7 to 9 p.m., a slide presenta­ tion and lecture will be given on Willard's two-year study in Venezue­ la. The reinterpretation of tradition­ al Andean forms using modern tech­ niques with local materials both in kiln construction and pottery pro­ duction itself, as well as a brief look st the History of Venezualian pottery will be. discussed. This presentation will be held at the residence of Bob Blue. Finally, at the Blue residence, the last stages of the salt firing tech­ niques will be demonstrated around 11 p.m. The workshop is expected to end around midnight, with salting of the fired kiln.
