"EARL WALSH .i" f / ; V' ^ ' So I Hear L [A ^UujLce. / Daddy, when will you get me a new Mommy? What can I do to help him understand? * When a child asks this or similar questions after the death of a parent they are really asking for reassurance that they will be cared for. Death of a parent can leave a child anxious about family routine, responsibility, and the life style that may develop. A child may need reassurance that others whom he counts on will not go away or die. They may also need to receive extra attention from the surviving parent. Spending time together while working or playing, talking about matters that are important to the child, and discussing events that will change the child's life are most im portant. Children benefit greatly from reassurance that everything that is happening around them includes their best interest. Let them know that they are important! Oh, yeah! That golf score of 60 should go places We wish Urn by Alderman Ray Smith roust have been a fluke. Pax Hole "Red" tells me Ray shot a 22 recently. "That's for real," says "Red". So why should ( believe Ray's friends who say it was on a Pee-Wee course? _ Sports fans will never know why baseball managers don't get out the hook when pitchers have obviously tired or lost their stuff. Everybody in the park and those watching TV know the struggling hurler should be sent to the showers - • And we don't get^paid to know* Seems tome the catcher knows best when the pitcher is through. They should have something to say about the decision. _ Reports are that our area Isn't the only place where mosquitoes have kept people out ofjheir lawns. I have an idea. Bring in flocks of bug eating birds to take care of the problem. Bring hungry birds. The mail brings so many eye cat ching folders letting us know we "may" be a big winner. I don't want to be a doubting Thomas, but will read carefully when they tell us we don't have to purchase anything to be a winner. Suppose they will make a believer out of me when they tell me I have won a new car or a million bucks. Remember way back when a millionaire was a rare person? Just heard a report on a ball player who is paid two million a year and nas a million dollar loan-- tax free. Don't raise your boy to be President. Our popular Sports Editor, Carl Moesche, is leaving after this week for greener fields. With a pleasing personality and neat appearance, Carl We recently met Lydia TalHtsch, mother of Judy, a Plaindealer paste -up girl. (I call it cutting out paper dolls). If Lydia is a senior citizen, she had me fooled. She had a career in various newspaper fobs. A pleasant girl to meet is Lydia. Maybe we wiflhave more time to chat when we meet The grapevine tells us that Herb Reihansperger has turned Jtff. allegience to the White Sox, Say it isn't so! We don't want those Cub tens who have been giving us fits so many years. It seems Herb's daughter attended the White Sox • Yankee game Sunday and brought a souvenir home to her Dad. Imagine his Joy in finding a picture of the Sox team hanging on his door when he awakened Mi morning. I'm not selling key, but the next best to a key to heaven is to have set of car keys in your billfold or purse. It beats looking around for a metal clothes hanger when: out. Monday i you lock yourself We hear people say, "Oh, to be young again!" In the next breath, they add, "But, I wouldn't want to start over again". I can't wait to tell "Brenda" this one. I mentioned a let-down when "one of my favorite ladies" told me how much she enjoys this column then added that she reads that other column first, then turns to SIH. Now comes a call that the favorite lady is offering a compromise. She will alternate, reading that other one first one time, then SIH first the next issue. That lady who gave me a boost is none other than Betty Black. I'm gaining! FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files ef Sept 1, 1262).
