WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK. FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 1918 HOUSE-WARMING OPENS CABIN | hy TRIER von On the Trventicthy day of thir Siowil, Veit budess Be it Fainir or shining Wel want you out here; ARR "In ourhoure built of log, ~ all of oak and nd-hemed, Where'the cobmwebr co-mingle Sind antiques are gleed. The Durnbiarn Tile. Sat. Spril 20%918 -3Prr to Midnight. An Indian or two mingled with ye old fashioned ladies and gentlemen, last Saturday afternoon and evening, when the little wooden doors of the attractive log cabin in Hubbard Woods, now owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Newton Burn- ham, were opened wide for a house- warming party. The little house, which, according to records, is at least a hundred years old, has been moved from its original site in In- dian Hill, near the gold links, to a' most attractive site, in the midst of the woods, at the extreme west end of North avenue, in Hubbard Woods. Two hundred guests, who braved the heavy rains, frolicked and made merry until late into the night. MRS. IRA COUCH WOOD IN CHILD AID ADDRESS (Continued from page one.) thing possible for the soldiers at the front, there could be, it seems to me, no more patriotic duty than that of ~~ "o-ghotecting the children, who consti- tute one-third of our population. The success of the efforts made in England in behalf of the children is evidenced by the fact that the infant degth rate in England for the second year of the war was the lowest in her history. Attention is now being given to education and labor condi- tions for children by the legislatures of both France and England, showing that the conviction among the Allies is that the protection of childhood is essential to winning the war. I am very glad that the same pro- cesses are being set afoot in this country, and I heartily approve the plan of the Children's Bureau and the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense for mak- ing the second year of the war one of united activity on behalf of child- ren, and in that sense a children's year. I trust that the year will not only see the goal reached of saving one hundred thousand lives of infants and young children, but that the work may so successfully develop as to set up certain irreducible mini- mum standards for the health, edu- cation and work of the American child. Cordially and sincerely your, (Signed) Woodrow Wilson. All women are urged to come to the Woman's club Thursday after- noon and hear of this wonderful work, which will mean so much to the future of the children. There will be good music. Grow a Garden If vou haven't the land or the time for a big garden, grow a little one. "Many nickels make a muckle, the Scotch say. A thousand little gardens are not only equal to, but are a great deal better than a hundred big ones. The time for talking about growing a garden has passed. Planting time is here. Plant the things the family likes, and things of the sort that all which cannot be eaten can be canned. Keep this in mind: An idle plat of land this year wil be a reflection on its owner. Make every square yard of earth do its duty toward winning the war. SAVE AND SERVE. Little drops of water, Little grains of sand, Make the mighty ocean And the fertile land. Little thrift stamps daily Bought throughout the year Make the kaiser tremble; Fill his heart with fear. Classified Ads FOR SALE FOR SALE--SETTING EGSS. R.
