WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1918 A LECTURE ON CHRISTIAN SCIENCE By DR. JOHN M. TUTT, C. S. B. Member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. A free public lecture on Christian Science, under the auspices of First Church of Christ Scientist, Wilmette, 111, was delivered in the Winnetka Woman's Club, Winnetka, Ill, Sun- day afternoon, September 22, 1918, at 3:30 o'clock by Dr. John M. Tutt, C. S. B., of Kansas City. The lecturer was introduced by the first reader, Arthur B. Haven, who said: Friends and neighbors of First Church of Christ Scientist, Wilmette; it is my privilege to extend to you this welcome. To those recently having become interested in Christian perhaps attending a lecture for the first time it should not surprise you to find many people, and from every walk of life, earnestly listening to the voice of Truth, expressed through the Christian Science serv- ices, the lectures and the periodicals, for, to quote from St. John's Revela- tion, "These are they that have come out of much tribulation." During these times of war distress, there is scarcely a neighborhood or family circle that is not right now in need of, and searching for, real comfort, and seeking relief from the bondage of fear, sorrow and suffer- ing. The same truths that Jesus taught, Christian Science is now teaching, and also proving the words of real comfort that Jesus, the Great Phys- ician, gave to his disciples, as found fourteenth chapter of John: 3 "not your heaft be troubled; ve believe in God, believe also in me." 'And 1 will pray the Father, and Science, or as The study of Christian Science re- veals a clear understanding of this "Comforter". It is indeed right, that alf who wish to hear of this teaching, given cor- rectly and with authority, should have the opportunity provided, and for this purpose there has been established by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass., a Board of Lecture- ship. It is my privilege to present to you Dr. John M. Tutt, C. S. City, who is a member of this board. He is qualified, and can speak with authority on Christian Science, and B. of Kansas | will now address you. Christian Science has come to hu- | manity in response to its cry; "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and re- new a right spirit within store unto me the joy of thy salva- tion." It has come to restore health in the place of sickness, righteous- ness in the place of sin, supply in the place of want, joy in the place of sorrow, understanding in the place of ignorance. Through the restorat- ive ministry of Christian Science multitudes today rejoice in newness of life. These individuals, bodily sav- ed and spiritually awakened, are not incompetent, but representative citiz- ens of the communities in which they live--they are your friends, per- chance. Many of them were Bible students--all are now. Many were Christians--all now are striving to me--Re- He shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever: even the Spirit of Truth." | the by the County Court of Cook County, Illinois) to make said supplemental special assess- ment.
