Dear Sir: -- i There are many people who do not believe that so-called evil can re- sult in benefit. Of course the true logic of this idea is the fact that usually "evil" is good. We like peace, we admire beauty, we want health and happiness. The evidence in daily life: does not show that we invite these good things, these good results. The preferred way seems to be the "hard road", unwilling to be wise and choose the constructive in thought, word and. deed. ! ges ; The tragedy of the War! Yet good wins the day, through the sorrow, sacrifice and horror of it, forcing home its hard lesson. The influenza came along, it made Kin ULL LLL LLL EZ 2777 Zar 777, | Jesus were a success with Him. This 'work was a daily practice of Divine WLLL LLL LLL dd Fd Ed ddd dedi A Yrorlamation Sunday, November 10, has been set aside by national headquarters as United War Work Campaign Sunday. A combined budget has been pre- pared for the war activities of the Young Men's Christian association, the Young Wom- en's Christian association, the National Catholic War council, the Jewish Welfare board, the War Camp Community service, the American Library associa- tion and the Salvation Army. Upon that day subscriptions will be received for this com- mon fund. The fourth liberty loan, which has just successfully closed, was to provide for the material needed in war. The united war work campaign aims to provide funds for those great agencies which minister to the moral and spiritual needs of our sol- diers in the field. It is, there- fore, a true complement to the liberty loan. Liberty loans pro- vide the means by which our soldiers can successfully meet with the enemy in actual bat- tle. But there is much of the time when our boys are not in combat with the foe. At such times the men need a thousand things which the army regula- tions cannot provide. They need those influences which go to make up a wholesome home; they need recreation; they need the presence of spiritual in- fluence. These can only be supplied through the great agencies named above. Our armies are fighting the battle of civilization. Surely, then, we should muster in full force, as near the battle lines as possible, all civilizing in- fluences. This is being done through the agencies which vou will be asked to help on November 10, United War Cam- paign Sunday. Proof constantly comes from the battle fronts of the effect- ive and beneficent influence of these organizations. There never was a cleaner army, morally, in the history of the world, than the American army of today. There never was an army, as is abundantly shown. more deeply moved by spiritual influences. This is due, in a large measure to the influence of the organizations you are now asked to help. And let it not be forgotten that the morale of our soldiers--the ad- ministration of the world--is greatly strengthened by the activities of these organiza- tions. Our people, through the lib- UL 27777 2 Zr Zr rr, LULL 2 2 2 2 ZZ 2272207 77777777777, SILL LILILL LL ILLIA IL LL LLL LL AAA SA HS FAA I HA A A AA AAA A AAA A AAP LL erty loans, have generously supplied the materials for war. So many people afflicted, the effort to protect everybody was soon in practice. Even the street cars in the big city were cleaned up and an effort made to avoid the miserable overcrowding. All of these good works should be exercised at all times, then less and less of evil would appear. If we re- fuse to learn of good willingly, then Life, Providence, Omnipotence, forc- es the lesson on our intelligence. No matter how selfish anyone may he they can not get away from their fellow beings. The sooner we realize the great far-reaching meaning of this "One-ness" of life the easier and happier daily life will be. Tradition is a hard thing to kill and is one of the weakest of stand- ards. Unconditional Surrender of Drudgery in the Home If You install That Washing Machine--- Ironer or Vacuum Cleaner TODAY Why do women go on working week after week and year after year, doing their House- work in the same way their Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers did it? What chance would we have to win the War or demand Unconditional Surrender of the = Huns if we used the methods and the kind of Thor Washing Machine SUNS and ammunition our Great Grandfathers used? IF THE MEN DID THE WASHING would your husband rub the clothes with his knuckles on the washboard and turn the hand wringer for half a day? NO! He wouldn't. In less than five minutes he would STOP and THINK. MEN THINK how to save them- selves. They seek the easiest and quickest way to get the best results.
