NORTHWESTERN ANNOUNCES 1920 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE A Title Page From Our 1920 Catalog Despite the fact that Chicago has refused to play Northwestern at football next fall the Purple gridiron schedule for 1920 is one of the best the school has had in years. Five conference teams will be played, two at Evanston and three away from home. For the first time in over fifteen years the Gophers from Minneapolis will be seen on the N. U. field. Dr. Henry L. Williams will bring his string of northern giants to Evans- ton on October 9. A week later the Purple will clash with the Badgers at Madison. Indiana will be played at Indiana- polis, Northwestern being the only team in the conference to play the Hoosiers at the capital. This game is scheduled for October 30. To Play Iowa ' On November 6 the Purple will play Iowa at Towa City and on November 13 Purdue comes here for the last conference game on the schedule. Northwestern would have played Michigan at Evanston next year had it not been for the decision of Coach Yost to schedule but four conference games next year. : N. U. Under New Management, D. SCHWARTZ, Prop. 633 RAILROAD AVE. Phone Wilmette 2429 a NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC: The Public Utilities Commission has ordered further definite conserva- tion of fuel to take effect Dec. 8, 1919. The order is as follows: 1. All illumination for display or advertising or ornamental purposes, whether within or with- out buildings, and all exterior illumination of buildings, shall be entirely stopped. In addition to this, all other interior illumination or any business premises shall, during the hours per- mitted by this order for the use of gas and electricity for such business, be reduced to 50% of the amount normally required, provided, that in rooms where machinery is being operated . the reduction of illumination shall only be to such extent as may be consistent with safety. 2. 'Suburban and local transportation sched- ules shall be reduced immediately to the least number of runs that will accommodate neces- sary travel requirements. As every ten degrees by which the temperature is lowered during zero weather on surface and elevated cars will save between 350. and 400 tons of coal per day, the temperature .of .cars and stations at all. times should be reduced to the lowest point consistent with public health and safety. 3.. Work shops, industrial establishments, wholesale businesses, mercantile establishments and storage warehouses (cold storage warehous- es and plants.excepted) shall receive service not to exceed six and one-half working hours of the day between the hours of 9:00 A. M. and 3:30 P.. M.. Where the nature.,of business requires continuous 'operation, an, equivalent reduction must. be accomplished by refusing service at. least two working days a week; and where the business is .conducted by means of a day shift and a night shift each shift shall be limited to six and one-half hours. : 4. 'Except as hereinafter provided; all retail establishments, stores and merchandising shops shall receive service not to exceed six hours a day from 12:00 o'clock M. to 6:00 B. M., except on Saturdays such establishments may receive service from 12:00 o'clock' M. to 9:00 P. M. Barber shops shall be governéd by this rule, except when located in office buildings, in which case they may receive service from 9:00 A. M. to 3:30 P. M. only. 5. Offices, banks and other places of business --all office buildings included--shall receive serv- ice from 9:00 A. M. to 3:30 P. M. only, except that banks which customarily remain open for business certain evenings each week may con- tinue to receive service on such evenings. Every possible economy in light, heat and power, in- cluding reduction in elevator service, must be effected within these hours and the heating dur- ing closed hours be reduced to the lowest margin of safety. Newspapers shall exercise every economy consistent with the nature of the busi- ness and the publication of their papers. In all buildings of whatever character, includ- ing 'factories and stores referred to above, serv- ice lighting shall be reduced to a minimum, ele- vator service outside of the hours specified for operation shall be reduced to gone car, and heat must .be cut off, except in such degree as will 'prevent damage by freezing. . 6. Theaters, vaudeville houses and similar places' of amusement, not. including motion picture houses, shall be restricted to service to six' performances' a week, namely, one in the afternoon and five in the evening, and enjoined to 'exercise at all times the greatest economy in illumination. Inasmuch as motion picture heuses consume very little light, they are excepted from regulation as to hours, but are required to effect all possible economies in'the use of light and heat. .Use of service by theaters, vaudeville houses and motion picture houses outside of hours of operation shall be only sufficient to safeguard against freezing. +7. Cigar stores not in office buildings, drug stores, meat markets, grocers, bread makers, hotels, restaurants, garages, billiard and pool rooms, bath houses and bowling alleys are not restricted as to hours of service, but are required to exercise all possible economy of heat, power and light. We ask the Public to co-operate in stopping excessive use of gas, particularly in effecting their utmost in saving. "DO NOT WASTE GAS, use within the limits, use Gas only where it is absolutely necessary--but no more. By doing this you will help us avoid a final short- age and save on Gas. This order is not to be interpreted so as to conflict with any orders of the Federal Govern- ment. This order shall be effective on and after 12:01 A. M., December 8, 1919, and shall super- sede said order of December 3, 1919, so far as it affects public utilities furnishing gas and electricity in Cook County, Illinois.
