It is proposed to employ every possible influence to bring the 1921 convention to one of Evanston's leading hotels. The plans of the north shore realty men will be laid before the dealers of the state at the 1920 convention which convenes in Rockford on Sep- tember 30 and October 1. It is hoped to make the Evanston and the north shore boards the strongest delega- tions at the convention. Reserva- tions are being made for a special train for the Evanston delegation and it is thought probable north shore dealers will join in effecting similar arrangements. A band is to accompany the Evanston realtors to Rockford. Should plans now underway result in the decision by the Illinois real- tors to hold next year's convention on the north shore it may be expected the dealers in this vicinity will ar- range for two of the biggest days in the history of the north shore. June Building Shows Remarkable Increase Review of Situation in Chicago and] North Shore Proves Extremely Interesting A. Chicago.--Building statistics for June are unusually interesting. In all of the territory north of the Ohio and east of the Missouri rivers contracts awarded in the first half of 1920 amounted to $1,542,585,000, which compares with the previous high record of $983,520,000 established in 1919. Pre-War Figures Previous to the war the record high mark was less than a half billion dollars. In the same period the pro- jects reported as contemplated total- ed almost $3,000,000,000. June was an average for the period, showing $260,- 833,000 of contracts actually awarded. ..Those who stroll about the north shore and Chicago contemplating the building operations and bemoaning the shortage of housing facilities will hardly believe that contracts awarded in the Chicago district in the first six months of 1920 exceeded all previous records, yet such was the fact. Contracts awarded in this territory amounted to $465,806,000 as compared to $392,983,100 in the same period of 1919, which was a record up to that time. These figures are more im- pressive when it is known that in the first half of 1911 contracts awarded amounted to less than $81,000,000 and in 1912 they were but $59,402,000.
