Houren this week, in commenting on the number of brush fires in Winnetka this week. "Residents should avoid burning rub- bish, even in containers, on windy days, and should at all times stay with hte fires until they are out," he advised. Four brush fires in the village this week were all occasioned by the spread of smcldering or wind-blown rubbish fires, it was said. Two brush fire calls came on Tuesday, one near 738 ILinden avenue and a second at North and Vernon avenues. On Wednesday there were brush fires at 915 Euclid avenue and at 618 Wil- low street. A roof fire at the home of H. S. DeLay, 878 Oak street, caused $50 damage Tuesday, the blaze being caused by sparks from a chimney. On Wednesday there was a fire call to the home of Edward Flynn, 564 Center street. An overheated stove occasioning alarm. There was no damage. BUILD $13,000 RESIDENCE F. A. Cooper and Company received a building permit this week to erect a $13,000 frame residence at 346 Sheri- dan road. The Village Department of Public Works also granted a per- mit for the construction of a $300 garage for S. W. McCaully, 988 Elm street. CHANGE TELEPHONE NUMBER A telephone switchboard was in- stalled at Winnetka Community House this week. The Community House telephone number has been changed from Winnetka 470 to Win- netka 538.
