CHOPWORK EXPERT ASSUMES BIG TSK Charles A. Kinney Takes Position at Parker School Charles A. Kinney, Director of shop- work in the Winnetka public schools, has been appointed Head of the Manual Training department of the Francis W. Parker school in Chicago, beginning with the end of the present school year. During the coming year Mr. Kinney will devote the major portion of his time to a comprehensive study of the place of handwork in the Park- er school at the present time, with a view to introducing such additions as will make the work more effective. Colonel Parker, who founded the school, was one of the foremost ex- ponents of the educational value of handwork. His ideals are reflected in the Parker school where, beginning with the kindergarten and continuing through the high school, handwork is an integral part of the curriculum. The school is a nationally known educa- tional laboratory whose graduates are numbered among the foremost educa- tors throughout the country. Both Su- perintendent Washburne of the local schools and Perry Dunlap Smith of the Country Day School were former students at Parker. Mr. Kinney will continue in his present position in the Winnetka schools, spending three days here each week. Another instructor will also be added to the manual training staff.
