--_---- or WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, UPEN COAL MINES! PLEA OF LOCAL MEN Commerce Association Asks Governor Small to Act Without Delay HOLD FRUITFUL MEET Visit New Offices in Brown Building One of the most enthusiastic and fruitful "sessions of the New Trier Commercial association was held at the Wilmette Village hall Monday evening of this week when the im- portant topic of discussion related to preliminary arrangements for New 1rier Day, the annual township out- ing given by the business men of the north shore. Want Mine War Ended Following completion of the New Trier Day business, however, the as- sociation found time for other mat- ters, among which was the adoption of resolutions addressed to Governor Small in which it was requested that the state executive take immediate steps to submit the dispute between the local m#ners and operators to arbi- tration. Should such measures fail, the resolutions advised the summon- ing of a special session of the state legislature for the purpose of repeal ing the Miners' Act in order to permit the state to take over the operation of the coal mines. The meeting adjourned, the mem- bers proceeding in a group to the Brown building, where a thorough inspection was made of the new as- sociation offices. This office, in charge of Miss Ruth Forberg, of Winnetka, provides information as to credits for the members of the association. It has proved highly successful and has been received with great satisfaction by the business men. Celebrate a Birthday The evening terminated with a visit to the refreshment emporium of John | Pappajohn. Fortunately for the mem- vers, John J. Moran, representative in the association of the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Electric rail- way, celebrated a birthday Monday, all of which prompted a general dis- tribution of choice Havanas. The next meeting of the association is scheduled for Monday, August 14, and will be held at the Wilmette Village hall. Every business and professional man in New Trier Township is eligible to membership in the New Trier Commercial association. Well, Girls, It's All Settled About Our 'Handsome Sink' "Isn't this a wonderful old world," she sighed. "Yes," he crooned, as he stepped on the gas. : "I'm the happiest person in the world," said she. "Me to," quoth he. "We'll never have any troubles, will we?" from her. "Not a chance," was the response-- more stepping on the gas. "Up to the curb, Barney Oldfield," came a rude command from along- side the road. Whered'yathinkyar, on a speedway?" it added. They were Mr. and Mrs. William Reynolds Singleton. The wedding had been a quiet affair at the home of the bride, Miss Frances Van Wie. The honeymoon journey, via the trusty Buick (vintage of the past decade), was well in progress and here they were in Kenosha--and pinched. Talk about troubles. "Sink" had it all planned out. "Quiet wedding, no annoying friends and a not too expensive, motor tour through the incomparable Wisconsin forests primeval. "Takes a lot of coin these days", he had argued.
