Harney, who is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin, gave a Mah Jongg party on Wednesday evening of last week, followed by a musicale, in their honor. On Thursday eve- ning, Mr. and Mrs. Rathbone gave a dinner and an opera party for their guests. --O-- Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Allen, 258 Mel- rose avenue, had as their guests, Mrs. Allen's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Web R. Ballard of Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Ballard left Christmas Day on "The Century" for New York, from where they will sail for South America. Mr. Ballard received an appointment from Washington to be commissioner from Montanta at the exposition at Rio Janiero, Brazil. ----(-- Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Gardner were dinner hosts Friday evening, December 22, for the latter's brother, Douglas Flood, Jr., of Kenilworth, who took part in the University of Michigan musical comedy, "In and Out," which was given at the Aryan G.'otto recently. ee Qe Mrs. Emil Beck Wetzel of High- land Park and Mrs. Robert O. Berger, 306 Kenilworth avenue, gave a dance at the Webster hotel on Tuesday eve- ning in honor of their daughters, Miss, Miriam Wetzel and Miss Ethel Berger. ----(p-- Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shattuck left Saturday of last week for State Line, Wis., to spend a week at their sum- mer home there. A party of young people attended the New Trier and Alumni basket ball game at the high school on Christmas night, and afterwards met at the home of Mrs. Roy C. Osgood, 423 Essex road, for an informal dance and supper. ---- Mrs. P. D. Rathbone, 523 Abbotts- ford road, left yesterday for Pasa- dena, Cal.,, where she will remain all winter. Mrs. Rathbone will visit her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Rathbone of Pasadena. --O-- The Kenilworth Club gave a small children's party from 2:30 to 3:30 and an older children's party from 4 to 6 o'clock on Tuesday, December 26. That same evening, the club held its annual Young People's Dance. --Q-- Mrs. Walter Bew, with her small daughter, Alice, who has been stay- ing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Chadler, 430 Essex road, left for her home in Atlantic City on Sun- day last. --Q-- Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thomas Ellis and son, Thomas, of Evanston, and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Clark and daughter, Marjorie, of Evanston spent Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Ridgway, 207 Cumberland avenue. Ra ed Mr. Grant Keehn arrived home from Harvard university on Thurs- day of last week, and Mr. Edward Parmelee on Sunday from Utica, N.
