Entered at the postoffice at Winnet- ka, lllinois, as mail matter of the sec- 5a class, under the act of March 3, SATURDAY, JANUARY 6, 1923 DR. COUE Dr. Emile Coué, the French physician who works on the theory that "as a man thinketh, so is he," is coming to the United States to deliver a series of lec- tures in the great cities of the country, His method is simple. Simply you think you are well, and behold, illness departs from you. People will flock to hear the man who has set the world talk- ing. There is no question of the following that he will secure here. We, as a people, have shown an astonishing readiness to take up with cults of every sort. We know so little of the science of psychol- ogy, so little of the history of psychic practices that we can find nothing by which to explain the apparent phenomena related by practitioners of the art, and noth- ing to stand in the way of com- plete and unreserved acceptance of the explanation that is offered. So many of our ills are imag- inary, so much of our indisposi- tion can be relieved by a cheerful outlook upon life that the minis- tration of those who treat the body through suggestion to the sub-conscious mind is beneficial in a great proportion of cases. Cheerfulness is a quality which is reflected in improved physical condition, however it is produced. If it requires the process of par- tial hypnotism to produce a cheer- ful spirit, then the means does justify the end. Every day, during his tour of the United States, Dr. Coué will grow richer and richer, if the ex- perience of others of his school of practitioners is repeated. But if those who go to hear him and to be treated by him receive in turn a new strength to maintain their mental mastery over the body, then the exchange will not be too one-sided to be honest.
