WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 5, 1923 PUBLIC LINKS IN GOOD SHAPE Tags Are Now Ready for Distribution The Playfield Golf course in the Skokie, supervised by the Winnetka Park board is to be in excellent con- dition for play this season, according to the following official announcement communicated to the Winnetka Talk this week. "The Winnetka Park board takes pleasure in announcing that through the painstaking work of Mr. Runn- feldt and his assistants the public golf course is in the finest condition at any time since its opening as a pub- lic playground. Through suggestions of the Playfield association and the constructive suggestions of many oth- er citizens some minor changes have been made which will unquestionably add to the convenience and pleasure of the public. Walter Stelzel is al- ready on the ground and will act this year as professional and starter. "The course has been used on ac- count of the unusually dry April, al- though the regular greens are not in use and will not be until the ground is fully settled so that they may be kept in first rate condition when the official playing season opens about the middle of May. "Notices are going out to the public this week and tags will be ready for distribution by the time this notice reaches the public. The Park board is anxious to co-operate with those in- terested in the game of golf to the point of making the public course not merely a place to play but a place on which good golf is possible. The board therefore, urges that the citi- zens of Winnetka co-operate to the fullest extent both in suggestions as to the improvement of the course and as to creating a community pride in what is probably a unique feature of our village." THE PUBLIC FORUM Editor's Note: Special request was made by Health Commissioner Schneider at this week's meeting of the Village council that the petition signed by seventeen physicians of the village and requesting that the plat of sub- division of the Alles property in the southwest of the village bounded by Willow street, Glenwood avenue and Sunset road be not approved because of alleged wunhealthful conditions in that vicinity, is published herewith for con- sideration by the readers of the Talk. To the President of and Trustees of the Village of Winnetka. Gentlemen : Whereas we are advised by Dr. C. O. Schneider, Commissioner of Health, that your honorable body has received, or is about to receive, for your approval, maps or plats with request for subdi- vision into building lots, of parcels of land located in that relatively low, un- drained and marshy western portion of the Village of Winnetka, known as the Skokie, and as this subdividing probably contemplates the sale of these lots to persons who would soon expect to build homes thereon, and as these persons may not be properly advised of the un- healthful conditions there, due to the absolute lack of facilities for storm water drainage, and as it is a well known fact that at certain wet seasons of the year these acres do become flooded, and that even under present conditions, householders, although more favorably located on higher ground ad- joining the Skokie, complain because of =the unsanitary conditions due to several feet of water in their base- ments, with furnace fires out and sick- ness resulting therefrom, Now, therefore, in the interest of public health, we, the undersigned, Physi- cians, residing or practicing in the Vil- lage of Winnetka, hereby petition the Council to take no action that will in any way encourage the sale or use of such Skokie property for residential purposes until such time as a permanent and comprehensive system of drainage is actually installed. : moving them up. A Comfortable Smart Shoe There is no need to wear shoes that tire your feet, cramp your toes, restrain and weaken your arch muscles. There is a good shoe which is smart in ap- pearance as well as correct in shape-- the Cantilever Shoe. Its primary purpose is to make the foot comfortable. But it is also good looking, and has those excellent features which brought it the endorsement of health and educational authorities and foot specialists. The line of the Cantilever Shoe are so graceful that you would hardly im- agine 1t possessed a natural sole line, room for the toes withoat crowding, good heels rightly placed, a flexible arch permitting free circulation and tree action of foot muscles. The woman who. risks her health by wearning poorly shaped shoes is invited to come and see Cantilever models. Many women who have changed to Cantilevers for daytime wear acknowl- edge that good-looking shoes which are properly shaped are a source of satis- faction and happiness. By wearing the Cantilever Shoe, vou will have foot comfort and the peace of mind that follows when the feet are no longer a source of annoyance.
