"i a WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 1923 SEND LOCAL BOY T0 SUMMER CAMP Winnetka Militia Associa- tion to Select Boy for Camp Roosevelt Course SCHOOL OPENS JULY 2 Excellent Teaching Staff is Provided "The Winnetka Reserve Militia asso- ciation will this year continue its policy of selecting a worthy boy to attend Camp Roosevelt, the national boy-build- ing camp now located near LaPorte, In- diana, according to officials of the camp. The association has done this for sev- eral years now, and they feel that the good derived by the individual selected each summer amply repays them for their effort. No selection has as yet been made for this summer, but an- nouncement will be made in the near future of the lucky lad." Ideal Summer Activity "Any parent looking for a school in which to place his son for the months of July and August can find no better place than Camp Roosevelt," it is point- ed out. The faculty consists of men and women selected not only for their knowledge of their particular subjects, but for their knowledge of boys and how they are managed. These teachers come largely from Chicago city high schools. The school embodies all of the advantages of which any school in any town can boast, besides upholding the use of fresh air, out-door sports, clean life, the right kind of recreational sports, splendid food and everything else which goes to building up the boy. Continues Over 7 Weeks "The school will begin July 2, and continue for seven weeks. "Boys who prefer the recreational ad- vantages exclusive of the educational pursuits may enter the R. O. T. C. or Junior Camps, depending on their age. These latter two divisions begin on July 9, and are divided into two periods of three weeks each, boys being permitted to attend either one or both periods. The entire camp closes on August 18. "Major F. L. Beals, U. S. A. is the commandant, and can be reached at his office at the Board of Education, 460 South State street, Chicago, until the opening of camp, when he will person- ally supervise all activities at the camp.
