VARS ZR. /) Division of WINSLOW BOILER & ENGINEERING CO. 175 No. Michigan Ave., Chicago NORTH SHORE BRANCH 817 Chicago Avenue, Evanston Telephone: Evanston 9235 eaves, the low, broad porch suggests protection from the summer sun which is always grateful. While the attic might, on occasion, be fitted up as a low room, its chief function is to provide ventilation and insula- tion from the heat. The roof line is very pleasingly with its low, rambling sweep. The porch in this case is made somewhat more secluded by the pleasing brick parapet which would lend itself to very artistic treatment. The living room, occupying the entire front of the house, is accessible from the porch either on the front or side. The fine brick hearth is flanked by bookcases which suggest delightful winter eveninks. The dining room is entered through folding doors from the living room or through the hall, ahd opens to the kitchen through a pantry, with cupboards and also butler's sink, which, if desired, could be converted into a breakfast alcove leaving the present breakfast room for other purposes. The ample kitchen has all modern conveniences and an enclosed service porch. The sleeping quarters--two bedrooms, a sleeping porch and the bath room--are secluded. The sleeping porch can do duty the year round for it is entirely glazed and has a good closet. The basement is provided with laundry, heating ap- paratus, vegetable cellar, and proper storage space, but may be restricted in area at the option of the builder. The ceiling height is 8 feet 6 inches and the content 38,000 cubic feet. Altogether this is an unusual house, both outside and inside, but above all it is decidedly a comfortable and convenient house to live in. U. OF I OPENS STADIUM NOY. 3 Will Be Ready for Big Home- coming Game Through the generosity of the alumni and students of the University of Illi- nois who are giving $2,000,000 for a me- morial staduim, for the first time all the people of the state who desire will be able to see the big football games at the state university. Although the stadium will not be en- tirely completed this season, all of its 55,000 seats will be ready for the open- ing November 3, the annual homecoming, when Chicago and Illinois will play. Heretofore it has been almost impos- sible for others than alumni and stu- dents to obtain seats for the homecom- ing game, but from now on there will be seats for everybody. Another important announcement is that there will be no limit on the num- ber of tickets purchased by one person. Taking advantage of this, parties to at- tend the opening are already being or- ganized all over the state. Frank H. Beach, manager of ticket sales, is mailing out 19,000 application blanks and instructions to Stadium sub- scribers. This material will be sent to all others who request it. It is pos- sible to order seats now for all of the home games at Illinois and many wise en- thusiasts are doing this. The Illinois home schedule is: October 6--Nebraska on Illinois field. October 13--Butler on Illinois field. November 3--Chicago in the Stadium. Homecoming. November 10--Wisconsin in the Sta- dium. Dads', Rotary, Kiwanis day. November 17--Miss. A, and M. in the Stadium, Coffee is a mighty good American drink, says state health commissioner Rawlings, but as a food for children its value is about that of a German mark. "The child who must have] coffee as a stimulant," he says, "needs | medical attention and he needs it badly." | DO YOU KNOW THAT The manufactured gas industry of the United States uses more than 10,000,000 tons of coal and about 900,- Read the Ven: Ads 000,000 gallons of oil a year, and that through their economical usage more than an equal amount of coal and thinkers and educators of those na- tions.
